Thank you for your kind words, brothers! They are very valuable in such dark times for my home.. You're completely right ka00, I just cant think about it right now. @Dr.Quest thank you very much for your kind words! I'll try my best to finish that library, but I cant guarantee anything. @spacepluk thank you, man! Ye, it is just a regular Zebra2. Thank you for the idea, tho, it seems pretty reasonable to do that actually. Small lib. with flexible...

Hi, man. To be completely honest, I didnt work a lot on these, because I didnt want to share just the patches I created my cyberpunk track with. Since then I created new ones tho, like this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fha0807ttia6054/Abstract.wav?dl=0 The main problem is that every patch...

[UPDATE] Started transcribing Superman...Came up with a piece instead

Yep, the piece is good, the only thing that bothers me a bit is the minor part of it. It feels a bit too romantic or something, I dont really know how to describe the feeling that bothers me. Try using polychords or simple triads but with a bit more complex relationships. Try changing standart...

MIDI Mockup - Rey's Theme (The Scavenger) - John Williams

WWs sound pretty good, strings are questionable, but its not your fault. Spitfire legatos are just weak for some reason (0:55+ pure midi stuff) :) I like the feeling of space tho, its good. The other good thing about the Spitfire strings is that you can hear the nicest high-end ever. I love it...

Theme for a non-existent drama series /BBC SO

Nice theme, but the main problem with chromatic notes in melodies is that you're entering the place where one step can lead from neutral dramatic quality of a melody to David Lynch drama style. You're on a very thin ice with the part mentioned above by @markleake. I like it tho, but in my...

Wow! Guys, thanks a lot. I really didnt expect the topic to rise again and all your comments are really kind. Thank you. Regarding the patches: I definetely WILL make the "library". Mass - something heavier.

Nice. Feeling it! I feel it could be better if the drums were mixed with hybrid drum elements and the texture overall was more hybrid. Sometimes you have to be brutal with your music, and this piece is the case I think. Things that come to my mind: -Mixing live kick with a hybrid one. -Kick...

After I composed I had a very positive feedback and some of guys suggested to make my own Zebra 2 sound library. Before I start to make it, I wanna say, that it will be top notch and one of the best on the whole market for sure, but it won't be really big, because each sound takes a lot of...

Hi, thank you :D Actually I tried my best to capture the character of the film. So ye, it is very Eastern. Those samples are really VI's. Cinematic Studio Solos :) But I work on my samples really hard, balancing each phrase and each note.

Eugene Latsko - Benya Kryk (a fragment from a 1920s film about the famous Jewish bandit)

Hello everyone! This piece is VERY different from anything I wrote before. So I applied...
  19. Grim_Universe

I've never won a contest before...

The piece is actually not bad at all. And I feel it fits well at the start, but then it becomes a little bit too epic. Not in a sense of the stock music epicness, ofcourse, but all these voices and huge sounds suggest something really big, you know? That's why I feel you had to concentrate more...

@Dirtgrain yes, it is really important to be a master of one synth at least. Eugene Latsko - F3ar-u

@NoamL thank you very much, friend! It is very pleasing to hear such things from people like you :) Did you end up preferring that to Cinematic Studio Strings (the full strings) + Spitfire? I updated it (Trombone 3). Now it has less noise and a bit better MW response. @Saxer haha. We'll see. Thank you! @DivingInSpace you're absolutely right! I had to switch from Serum to Zebra just because Serum is digital to the bone. Pads and everything don't sound lively enough.

  28. Grim_Universe

    Does this work?

    Much better!
  29. Grim_Universe

    Does this work?

It really depends on a context of usage of the piece. If the piece is used in a video where something dramatically changes, thеn yes, it kinda works. If it is a background piece which is supposed to work by itself, then no, it doesn't work. It should have a A->B->A1 structure then.
  30. Grim_Universe

    Something "cinematic"

Very nice. I've been experimenting with synthesizers for the past month or so too. Regarding piece: it feels a bit squashed by a compressor\limiter. Especially when the low drums hit. Better use a bit of sidechain on everything else and avoid extreme compression (especially if it is not...

  34. Grim_Universe

    Cinematic Studio Brass?

@michdb can you please upload an example of how cinebrass sounds? By the way, I think I know how you can "fix" this problem. Create two instances of solo trumpet and lower the pitch of one of them by -2. Then rise pitch of a midi channel by 2. That way you will trigger different samples of the...
  35. Grim_Universe

    Cinematic Studio Brass?

@michdb you can't do anything about it. We don't hear phasing problems in real recordings just because they are blurred out with early reflections. Totally amazing JW style piece by "Ben Lasker" - maybe a pseudonym for Benjamin Wallfisch?

@NoamL I agree with you, Noam. Deversity is the thing we asking for. Harmonic language can become complex and rich and everything, but those unnecessary decorations, just like in the Ben Lasker's demo, have to go away. They are not about our time, I feel. Your Favorite Reverb?

LexPCM is the best in terms of balance and frequency clearness. It is my favourite reverb for orchestral works, and I tested a lot of them. B2 and FabFilter Pro-R are pretty good too. Noam, I respect you very much as a person and as an intelligent man, but you don't have to be a football player to say that somebody plays bad. I didn't understand a thing unfortunately, because English is not my main language, but aesthetically this work looks very appealing to me! It is actually very nice. A Mysterious Light

I like that kind of music. The only problem here is that the main motif is not that pleasant as it meant to be. Eugene Latsko - Butterfly Chooses a Cage

@Thomas Kallweit Thank you! It is actually a good question how to control dynamics of music better while making it cleaner and better in terms of mixing and balance. I don't use compressors that affect the whole frequency range of an instrument, but I use limiters and I think that that's the...

Eugene Latsko - Butterfly Chooses a Cage

@shawnsingh thank you very much for your detailed post and kind words! I really appreciate it. How do I make this solo piano piece better in terms of reverb/mixing/mastering

    1) Process your left and right hands separately. 2) Use really extreme exciter settings, but mix it not for 100% with your main track, but for 20% or 30%. You want to add some tube distortion on top of your track. 3) Bump low frequencies. 4) Compress mid and high mid frequencies. I compressed...

Got my remix in the LEGO MOVIE 2 Trailer !

Nice work, I just can't get rid of the feeling that I hate the trailer itself. "You kicked butt, and then the hapless male was the leader?"... The main hero and the main villain are females. Everything looks like toys of some girl. WHAT THE F*CK HAPPENS?

    "CL" - Critiques Welcome

I really like the piece! Probably it is because I love the abstract type of music, but I can't really criticize anything here. But here are my ideas how to make the piece better: 1. Structure. Quirky orchestral - mixing

You need a little bit of the high frequencies, then EQ or reduce the volume of your cello (or cbass) pizz. Sorry for the late reply, I was busy. @AlexanderSchiborr I used the trailer brass library "horde" instrument which sounds like a distorted tuba + cimbasso + subbass to strengthen the low end. @EvilDragon yes, you're absolutely right. That's weird as hell. But Reaper and MIDI are not friends. Try somehow to compose a very big project with a LOT of MIDI tracks.
