It may be better than rumours suggest. I haven't had such benefits with any of my libraries, even though some of them would benefit from it considerably. I also suspect that what ProjectSAM and EastWest have done is more extensive. But that may be a bit apples and oranges.
In Denmark we have a saying: “Ingen røg uden ild”.
Translated that means something like: “No smoke without a fire”, or “If there’s smoke, there’s a fire”.
With that I mean that since there is often talk about how Spitfire does not spend enough time and resources fixing bugs instead of releasing new stuff all the time, then there is likely some truth to it.

One needs look no further than the Stereo Mix patches in Spitfire Studio Strings Professional that either do not trigger legato samples at all or in some cases, load no samples at all.

The Support team can give you the NKI files to fix this, but the company at large apparently cannot be bothered to take the small time investment of updating their own download files to include these updated NKI files.

They don't even go through Native Access for hosting, so there's really no excuse for letting what should be (at minimum) a Severity 2 issue linger on for so many years.

Yet I still invest in the Abbey Road range because I'm a sucker for THE SOUND(tm).

I get what you're saying here! :)

I think it was this year they "spitfired" a bunch of the expensive pianobook libraries too, righ

Is this a slower release schedule than previously?

Less originals, i guess but those are mainly reused samples so you could call chamber strings a "super originals".

OT have also been spending much more time improving/porting over their main libraries while still releasing further ranges but not going on to half abandoning there main orchestra range (berlin series) Also VSL are not releasing multiple orchestras but instead releasing one full on orchestral range (synchron) and improving upon that. Spitfire now have SSO, SStO and then BBCSO Pro and have now moved straight on to another full modular orchestra. I would have been much more engaged with spitfire and optimistic if they had decided to spend a little more time and resources on instead updating there other main orchestral lines (SSO, SStO + BBCSO Pro) than releasing yet another one.
OT has been spending "much more time"? Really? They have spent far less time and effort than even EW did for their Hollywood series. They released another dynamic layer for Berlin Brass - but what else was significant for their core Berlin series? SINE updates have been few and far in between (with some large update allegedly coming in Q1). If anything, they LOST functionality and reduced the quality of some articulations during the port to SINE (that's why there was such an uproar around the inability to buy Kontakt versions any longer).

And VSL? Did you miss the displeasure around Synchron Duality Strings essentially not being an update, but being viewed as an expensive duplication / replacement for Synchron Strings Pro (which was viewed as an expensive duplication / replacement to Synchron Strings 1)?

I mean, at least SSO, SStO, and BBCSO are distinctly different sounds, recorded in very different spaces. You don't need to own all of them either.

I don't own many OT libraries but own most of Spitfires main libraries but it just feels like more of the same to me after buying SSS, SCS Pro, SStS Pro, BBCSO Pro. It might not feel like that for new buyers of sample libraries.

In regards to OT they have ported over all there main berlin series over to their player which Spitfire have not done for SSO or the Studio series and I understand there was an update to the woodwinds legatos for the berlin series that apparently made the legatos better for the woodwinds in SINE which is also coming for the strings and brass apparently.

In regards to VSL, I'm seeing lots of focus on their synchron stage and yes while synchron strings pro and duality strings do have quite a bit of a crossover at least this is only with the strings and Duality to me is quite a different strings library with a new concept that needed to be fully re recording and is very extensive (normal, con sord and poncicello/flauntando libraries) and thus needed to be a new string releases.

Off the top of my head I can remember big, free updates for BBCSO and HZS.

SSS got several updates as well (bug fixes etc.)

I’m sure if I’d been paying more attention to it, I could list more libraries that have gotten updates throughout the years.
There was also the huge update to the flute in SSW, which was very substantial, and joy to play with.

And another one to SSB (though I don't have it).

And promises of more SSO instruments receiving similarly overhauls.

The last time I opened up the SF app, I had something like 12 updates waiting to be installed.

There's some truth, and all libraries have issues.

And SF isn't and super-extra--pristinly-meticulous brand like VSL. Which works for a lot of people, myself included.

I imagine that I'm a little bit lucky in that I've never encountered a significant QA issue in a SF library that I couldn't work around, but I know there are those that have. So there are legitimate and, and genuinely helpful critiques to be validated.

But at the same time, a lot of the critique is genuinely unhelpful - frequently falling into categories of uncritical hyperbole, demonstrably false claims, (mis)information cascades, and general internet toxicity. Such critique is unhelpful.

I would ask you why did you buy those if they felt similar to you or they covered the same ground? They have a distinctly different tone, room, etc., but if you didn't appreciate that, why even buy them? Wildly different price points between BBCSO and SSS as well.

And many folks are happy that SSO is left within Kontakt. Porting from Kontakt doesn't always make sense - for the customer or the company. And Spitfire has recently released updated instruments for SSO with more promised - new total performance legato patches that are very powerful and work very well. And I can tell you that just because you've read OT has improved something doesn't mean in actuality the owners of the libraries felt it was improved. A lot of people felt Berlin Revived Woodwinds were worse than Berlin Legacy Woodwinds for example. If you don't own the libraries, I'm not sure how you can make your claims anyway.

And yet, a chamber string section, a symphonic string section, and a studio string section are not different concepts?

If you want to complain and be angry about Spitfire, please do - plenty to complain about. But at least get your facts right.

I know @Spitfire Team are busy with Abbey Road Modular, but it beats me why they haven’t recorded and released Appassionata Strings Pro with short articulations & so on to make it a full standalone string library.

My impression upon launch was that pretty much everybody loved Appassionata Strings so making an expansion would seem like a complete no-brainer.

Maybe the new CEO will make it happen, who knows! :)🎹
Ok the Appassionata has no Core or Pro version? Just one standard? And it comes with more than one mic position? If that’s what it is, I am telling you they’re done with. Well, mostly, I think, as for this library coz I think I heard Paul mentioning it’s a Legato library & you can’t expect more?

Things have definitely changed since last year's event.

I'm not a big fan of their new Pre-order discount and then discount removed once the product is released. Then during that time only videos of pre-order, only Spitfire approved videos are up on YouTube.

Use to be, product released, discount active, people could buy and make videos and rest of us could watch and make our decision.

Now unless their video is compelling enough to make you buy, better off waiting until next sale.

I'm content to wait until the full lineup of Abbey Road is out and use what I got to write.

As my replies seem to be getting deleted, I am going to keep it very brief and not reply to all points in the hope that it does not get deleted again. This will be my last post on this topic.

I purchased those libraries as I felt they covered lots of different ground (Symphonic, Chamber and Studio) and thus obviously a chamber strings section, a symphonic string section and a studio section are different concepts. I'm also not angry or complaining about Spitfire. Spitfire form the majority of my template and I love many of their libraries, however, recently I have become less excited with recent releases.

As I am not being allowed to reply to this as my replies seem to be getting deleted...
Read the "Dominating a Conversation" item in this "Guidelines: Over-Posting" thread. 8 posts in a thread that just started this morning is too many (that’s 8 before I started deleting), and crowds out the other discussion.

This is the sort of thread where everybody has an opinion, so it's better that everybody gets a chance to write a post or two, rather than a handful of voices dominating the discussion. (That's one of the overriding themes in that Guidelines/Over-Posting thread.)

Regarding the unfairness of not deleted ALittleNightMusic's post as well, note that in these arguments, somebody is always going to have the last word, so working backwards would be an endless back-and-forth of "If you delete mine, then you have to delete his, too."

Imho Spitfire should spend less on LABS and the magazine and more on product QA. Besides that I feel that starting the ARO product line is a mistake. I would have preferred doing more paid improvements within the Air realm. I do feel abandoned a little. It also seems to take too much time and effort. And last but not least not backing Christian made the company look bad to me. Not to mention his input made Spitfire products attractive. I forgave him the overhyping the moment he started doing it. Christian is also the one who convinced me that this hobby was for me.

My guess is the enormous growth of the years before may not mean this level is on a path to further growth. I expect them to shrink a little. It is also to be expected that they drop prices of older libraries to create new sales to fund the ARO development. We've seen already the price drop of products like Red Cola. The reintroduction of older Albions. The Chamber strings core. Unfortunately it all feels somewhat empty and uninspiring. I miss Christian.

What's really positive is Luke/Karma. He seems to be thriving. I also loved the SSW and SSB performance patches for the flute and trumpet. I hope they'll do more. Paid would be fine. I also would get an Appassionata expansion.

I started the whole composing and orchestral VST thing about a year ago. So I can't really say anything about the developments of the last years. Although I always have the strong impression that Spitfire's image has suffered in the last years.

What I like about Spitfire is their diverse offering. I don't think I know of another developer in that regard that offers such a wide range of products.

I can also rate the quality of their offering as mostly positive. Spitfire is very user friendly. Getting started is easy.

Everything is cyclic. The company couldn't keep the insane growth going forever. At one point they seemed to be releasing a new library every week.

The company is nearly 100 strong now and is more than just Paul and Christian. In fact, those guys appear to have been pretty hands off for a while now so I think the whole "things took a dive after The Event" narrative is probably overplayed, although I concede there was probably some internal drama.

They'll be fine. They're sat on a mailing database of thousands of customers. They have an incredible amount of assets they can mine, spin and re-release. They have the run on Abbey Road, Air and now HZ has purchased Maida Vale, we can perhaps look forward to some more BBCSO content.
