Abbey Road One Selections/Foundation Info

Hi all!

Soaring Brass and Strings was what Grand Brass (the cellos and horns bit) was originally going to be called.

Then we folded that into one selection.

This product had to be rethought a number of times as Covid happened - and we never recorded any high strings legato. The copy on the product page was my bad - I was just on a flight of fancy.

Still - we started planning this extra one back earlier last year, and recorded it in October.

It does - as they all do!! - one task (well, two - as we had extra session time and grabbed the fast runs stuff) - but, it’s got a really lovely alternate style to the main high strings in OF.

We do listen!! Just a bunch of passionate individuals working together to try and make cool inspiring stuff to create music with.

Looking forward to hearing some user demos!!

Thanks

Paul
This clarification is super appreciated. Hopefully this can put a lot of the speculative talk to bed. (Some of it my own.)

Paul! Great to see you here man....your joyful optimism is always appreciated. Thanks for taking time to clarify. It is a bargain of a lovely little library.

Before the official announcement of the Soaring High Strings the price for the collection was €579, and now I see €578.
Then you Sir are right. The price has remained the same. So people like myself had to pay for the extra instrument, whereas people who buy the collection today, “get it for free”. Glad we sorted this out. You were sort of right, so I am happy for that. And I still had to pay, so for existing owners this expansion was not free. A bit of a weird pricing choice, but I can only be happy that you were right all along. And I gladly paid for the new strings. Happy faces all around! 🤍

I'm happy with violins in unison and am going to purchase to complete my collection.
I also would have been happy with violins in octaves, as that's another tool which I know I would use often.

I really enjoy this series of pre-orchestrated selections and would like to say I hope that Paul & co change their mind about this being the last selection, I think they are useful & often inspiring in a way that individual sections aren't always. Maybe if enough people express a similar opinion, we may see more one day.

The library sounds really nice and, no doubt, will serve as a most useful, final component to the AROOF selections series. Also nice to have "closure" on this series rather than feeling you've spent money on an unfinished product.

Looking forward to creating some complete compositions with just this set of libraries now.

Definitely!

I love the Selections. They set out to do one thing only, and do it well, for an incredible price. I understand peoples' complaints regarding the limited range of most of them, but that range is always right in the "sweet spot" where those particular sections or combination of sections sound best.

I'm still missing a couple from before (Thematic Trumpets and Thematic Horns, only skipped those because I already had TH Brass to supplant some of the brass in my very Spitfire-centric template). So the collection is definitely tempting!

Hi Paul,
As one of your loyal customers (GAS al over the place here): what is the real difference, in your eyes, between the legato of Appassionata and Soaring High Strings? I hear a slightly different character, but what would the added value for the lucky owner of appassionata be?
Cheers, Lars.

Symphonic size violin section, versus the much smaller "studio" size sections in SAS (larger than typical chamber string sections, smaller than typical symphonic string sections). SAS has 8 V1's and 6 V2's if I'm remembering correctly. Compared to the 30 total players (16 V1 + 14 V2) here.

I really didn't intend to make you (or anyone who didn't get it free) feel that way, sorry.
I was just churros ;-)

I just bought it and completed AROne. At the end, there is no viola legato patch (single or combo) in the whole library, right?? (Legendary Low includes Cello & Bass, Soaring High Strings includes 1st & 2nd Violins).

No there isn’t. Never intended nor promised as far as I recall.

AROOF was always going to be an ensembles / sketching library.

The film scoring selections are common pre orchestrated ensembles designed to do one thing extremely well.

The project was never intended as a complete orchestral library with individual sections. Guess you’ll have to wait for Abbey Road Orchestra Violas!
