Interestingly in some older documentation, it appears the original plan may have been to have high and low ensembles like Albion 1, rather than splitting the horns and trumpets (although I'm glad they did in the end).

Also Paul wasn't completely forthcoming in that video. He made it sound like there wasn't initially going to be a high strings scoring selection, whereas those who were paying attention already knew the name of the library because it was part of the campaign for the second set of selections. But then unexpectedly it disappeared before launch. (SF didn't initially get all the copy properly scrubbed, which is why folks knew a high strings library was part of the original plan.)

I suspect this library looks different from the one that was initially going to be released. And it may well be that at one point they considered scrapping it altogether and then changed their minds. But I think it was a bit disingenuous to imply that they didn't originally think about having a high strings legato library as one of the scoring selections./rant
 
Well the price of The Collection doesn't seem to have changed.
What is the price of the last selection for those that already had (the previous version) of The Collection?

Yeah, that's a flat-out lie. It was always part of the plan. For a time, it was even in some of the text for AROOF on the website from the beginning.

Heh, yeah...

It was in the plan at some point early on. (Since it appeared in marketing copy and in the background of one of their videos.) My guess is SFA scrapped it somewhere along the way. (EDIT: This isn't correct. It existed only in a bit of marketing language and nowhere else.)

Then the "encouragement" (AKA demand/drama) got them to put it back into production.

Anyway, I didn't have the strong feelings about it that some folks had. But hey, I welcome this development and my initial impression is it sounds good and looks useful.

Eh. Sure, you can make your own, but it's not the same. First off, it would be 30 players for each line instead of 16 + 14. And second, even without the section size mismatch, these never quite have the same sound as being recorded actually playing octaves together.

Yes it definitely does sound great! And we get almost 4 octaves of range, quite a bit more than typical of these Selections.

Calling people liars is such ugly business. Consider that by "original plan" he may have meant the plan he conceived originally with Christian before AROOF was even announced, where they might not have had "High Strings" as a planned expansion.

Exactly. I get that the point of AROOF, once all of ARO is out, is to become a sketch lib with some combinations of instruments in unison and in octaves, since having things actually recorded in that way add much than just simply doing yourself with modular libs. This release feel like a missed opportunity.

I think the point Paul was trying to make is they weren't going to release a High Strings, they got a huge demand for it, so they changed their plan and released a High Strings.

He was just trying to say they changed their plan in response to demand, that's all.
 
This selection makes no sense other than not competing with ARO. Why would we have cellos and basses in octaves but THIRTY violins playing in unison? How do we match the low string shorts with the high strings *short*? This is LITERALLY just so SA can say they've done a high string legato. Ridonk.
 
Hi all!

Soaring Brass and Strings was what Grand Brass (the cellos and horns bit) was originally going to be called.

Then we folded that into one selection.

This product had to be rethought a number of times as Covid happened - and we never recorded any high strings legato. The copy on the product page was my bad - I was just on a flight of fancy.

Still - we started planning this extra one back earlier last year, and recorded it in October.

It does - as they all do!! - one task (well, two - as we had extra session time and grabbed the fast runs stuff) - but, it’s got a really lovely alternate style to the main high strings in OF.

We do listen!! Just a bunch of passionate individuals working together to try and make cool inspiring stuff to create music with.

Looking forward to hearing some user demos!!
