While asking myself the same thing (I downloaded the demo of the Regular version, but hadn't time to do more than a few quick tests), I can say that in general the additional microphone do add something. How much, depends on the library. There are huge difference between standard an pro on those mic positions? I want it to use it as stereo signal not surround.
It was joke back when the first one got released.SUDS? I assume this is SDS with a U inserted?
Shawshank Redemption suds during a break from work.SUDS? I assume this is SDS with a U inserted?
Yep I saw that and almost posted about it. But since they have to get my license manually. Figured they would come back and say that I'll standard not full.PS: bestservice has full and standard versions named wrong, but that can be safely ignored.
I just tried it and it’s stopped working now!Has anyone tried to see if the BestServicce coupon code from yesterday still works? I don't remember what it was and can't try myself. I don't expect it will work, but if it does I can still wrestle with whether or not to add one of the two Duality libraries. I shouldn't, but as always, I'm tempted.
Bold has a different name - Normal. There are Normal and Agile Legato.Yup sorry y'all, I was misremembering something from the walkthrough. Bold and Agile don't apply to Legato at all.
Yeah, SDS tree mics seem drier than SSP on shorts while on legatos they are of mostly the same wetness (but the sound is different, SSP being darker even with brightening EQs in Synchron mixer). After playing with them for some time, I've collected a few initial impressions.
- As usual, the High and Surround microphones add a lot of air to the sound. But the Room Mix is already very good. Unless one wants to play with the mixer, the Standard room mics are already a great setup. I'll keep the Full version, because I like to have maximum flexibility.
- The Ribbon mics do their warming job with elegance.
- I can't fully understand the B-Bright mics. Their contribute seems minimal. They are there, but more similar to a spice, than to an essential ingredient. The biggest contributor of the B-Room is the Dark set. And it does a wonderful job of making the sound warmer, fuller and more present at the same time.
- The Solo mics are a joy. The section leaders emerge as clearly separated elements, despite not being soloists. They add a lot of color to their section.
- Add the B-Dark section to the Solo mic, and you get a fruity chamber section with a separate leader. Add the B-Bright section, and you add some brilliance to the ensemble. Yes, I think that they can work as a separate chamber ensemble. But I'll have to test them more.
- The compressors contribute greatly to the overall "produced" sound. Remove them, and you get a natural sound. Everything seems to be, however, closer to the mics than in SSP. There is, I feel, less of the hall in the Standard mics.
An incredible library.

It has its own thread!Still no talk about the new Muted Strings?![]()
Would you be able to share presets for ssp or elite strings with the new mix applied? I'd love to try it out. It‘s not only the compressors, the entire mix is different. In previous libraries they narrowed the stereo images of the close and mids and balance panned the decca LR and room mixes, especially on the strings. I wonder why? This is no critique, I prefer this new approach. The old panning was too wide and you lost some center, in my opinion.
If you apply the new settings to the old libraries, they sound better to me. Hope they will update all libraries, because in the Smart Orchestra they did the same.
I heard this demo in your SLR review (which was great btw) and convinced me to get SDS. Gotta say, it sounds way better here, which speaks to just how much YouTube compression messes with sound quality. I knew it was a real phenomenon, but damn…Here's a fun thing I did writing a demo for the SLR review, written in under half an hour and using all instruments and quite a wide variety of legatos and shorts.
You can easily do it yourself, just reverse the panning. Have a look at the attached screenshots.Would you be able to share presets for ssp or elite strings with the new mix applied? I'd love to try it out.
I don't hear any difference in the two panning methods? Comparison below back to back (first is new style, then old style)You can easily do it yourself, just reverse the panning. Have a look at the attached screenshots.
The "new" settings shown on the left side are used in SDS and the Smart Orchestra. At least in the "classic" presets. The "wide" ones still use additional panning. I always reverse it. If this is the correct handling, I don't know, but I prefer the new sound. Maybe it's just another kind of mixing, maybe some engineers do it this way, others do it that way...
