AIR Studios Reverb Discussion Thread

What's funny is that VSL's Synchron Stage Reverb had an issue with the Horn preset sounding odd. The plugin was released in April this year, that issue was brought up in the past couple of months, and VSL released an update addressing it a couple of days ago. That's how you handle business. None of that several months to years of waiting for a potential fix that may cause even more issues faff.

Look at the changelog:

Spitfire Devs, take note. Product support is important. No one is going to buy your future products if they are burned by your previous ones. Excluding the fan-boys/fan-girls, ofc.

Honestly, except suing them for false advertising, nothing else will change how Splice handles this type of issues going forward.

I have this issue where it freezes for a moment when exporting with the newest full version, unlike the Essentials version. This happens in both Nuendo (see above) and (just checked) Ableton Live. I would speculate that whatever happens under the hood is the same thing that causes the issues in Logic.
The recent update slowing down all audio exports is really making it unbearable to work with. Every time I want to bounce or freeze anything at all in my DAW, I might as well go get a cup of coffee.

I also discovered a new issue: is anyone else experiencing the output of AIR Studios Reverb quietly turning mono after a while until you reopen it? Another bug the Essentials version doesn’t have. I’ve dealt with this for a few days now, but for the moment, I’ve removed it from my template.

Good call. One should be careful not to depend on any Spitfire non-Kontakt product at this point.

Fixed:
  • Resolved an issue where bouncing a project after saving/loading without opening the AIR Reverb UI would result in a silent bounce.
Known issues:
  • Bounce Issues: Mono output with GUI closed, reverb sounds wrong after IR calculation with GUI open
I just don't understand how this can even happen, let alone not being immediately fixed. Kudos for honesty, though.
  1. They fixed a bug related to bouncing
  2. They introduced a new(?) bug while fixing the other, which was also related to the open/close state of their plugin GUI (how that is even a factor is beyond me, but anyway...)
  3. Spitfire (via Paul) claims the reason updates take so long is because of extensive regression testing
  4. End scene and roll Directed by Robert B. Weide
No more Spitfire for me.

Yes same here. Sigh...

I think I was able to bounce ok in Logic yesterday with a couple of instances, but I do tend to bounce in real time in general (often will use UAD plugins for example). But I'm also very glad I have Altiverb 8 and will be switching out AIR for that at the moment.

Same mono problem

Same mono problem
I’m glad to hear it’s not just some random issue on my system. It sounds a lot like a problem they had right after release, which was fixed after a few weeks:

Another issue I found (and believe I saw it mentioned by another user) was that if you save a project (in this case Cubase) with one or more instances of AIR Reverb in it, when you reopen the project, AIR Reverb sounds in mono. This seems to be corrected by simply opening the plugin window, but needless to say is a problem. These issues do need to be worked out quickly, and definitely should have been caught during testing.

Not trying to be snarky here, but has anyone updated and NOT had issues? If so, can you let us know what hardware you are running, OS version, and Logic version (if applicable)? Maybe we can crowd source a solution.

Just experimented a bit with this. And yes, when the GUI is closed the output is indeed mono. When the GUI is open, this happens ("reverb sounds wrong"):

Cubase 14, Windows 11, AMD 9950X, 64GB RAM. In other words, a pretty common setup.

Everyone with some free time should try this and export/bounce the FX-channel with AIR Reverb on it to see if the output is wrong and state your specs. This way, maybe we can narrow the issue down or at least see which systems are affected.

Edit: Forgot to mention;
  • when the AIR plugin is part of the project, it takes a while before the exporting begins.
  • real time export makes no difference

I had the mono issue in Ableton Live 12.2.6 on a MacBook Pro 14” with an Apple M3 Max chip, 36 GB RAM, running macOS Sequoia 15.7.1.

Having another issue, on exports, it sounds mono (like when you open the plugin but for the entire track), making it impossible to use after the update.
