How to make a multi-outputs instrument?

One more for the road:

I see an instrument can have several busses, and busses can be assigned to outputs, but the number of outputs and channel count of each seems set up at the multi level (or even higher). Wouldn't that mean that I, as an instrument developer, don't have control over the output configuration ? I mean, if only one stereo output is present (which is the case by default), the instrument can't address multiple outputs, right?

How then can I provide my instrument's users with a series of discrete outputs, which would make sense with the instrument's features ?

Yeah you don't have control over it. The user needs to set it up. All you can do is list the available outputs, and write in the manual how the user is supposed to set up extra outputs.

And does the user need to open the instrument, and assign busses to outputs in there himself?

Yes.

No. You can use $ENGINE_PAR_OUTPUT_CHANNEL to assign busses to whatever available output there is.
