I find the Garritan CFX to have this hybrid sound, kinda a cross between Yamaha and a Steinway D. Very powerful assertive tone, good for classical muscle flexing. The Audience perspective is also my favorite in both the classical and player mics.

It's the default preset in the Player Perspective. Here are my settings. "Touch" has been changed in my controller to "hard" but kept linear inside Garritan.

Correct! It's the Player mics! For anyone who feels that the Garritan CFX lacks fullness and presence, try the Player perspective. I understand there are phasing issues with that perspective, per admission by Garritan if i remember. But honestly it doesn't bother me much (?)

The VSL pianos resonance has been improved with the latest Synchron Piano Player. Are you on the latest version of the player? The Ivory ACD has an impressive playability, very much on par with the Garritan. And the ACD in particular sounds very realistic on hi-fi with a really nice "studio"...

Yes. what i meant is that they usually involve Uli from Galaxy Instruments in pretty much every project involving piano samples...since like...forever. Just an observation.

I think Arranger Workstations (Korg Pa5x etc) have a strong grasp and dominance over the industry when it comes to those sounds. Sadly, i know for a fact that one is not considered a "legit" middle eastern music producer/arranger if they don't own the latest and hottest arranger workstation.

Could have been that those boards were "broken in" more...because i experienced this myself. I enjoyed playing once an aging showroom LX-705 more than the RD-2000 they just got.

I don't think they make variations of that action like they used to before (if that's what you meant). I think with the newer models they're going with a universal PHA-4 now, which is good and less confusing.

The Kronos version is superb, drastic difference in response and overall depth than the Kontakt version. Which kinda makes sense since the velocities where probably tailored for hardware integration and what not.

I remember i've always had my settings to -5.24 or something. Push it further than -4 i say. Trust me that further -1 makes a difference because i know how annoying the release samples can get in this one.

Turn off the mics delays in the mixer tab. Problem solved (hopefully).

Appreciate the nice words! I've been getting a lot of compliments (real life audiophile friends included) about the sound in this demo. I think it's safe to say that the Steingraeber will eat a large portion of the pie in my next album!

I understand why he doesn't like Keyscape's C7. It's that special felt. There is no way around it. Even the C7 Bright preset struggles in making those f and ff ring like a clean sounding grand. With that said, very few can top Keyscape's C7 in terms of richness, body and "ready" studio sound...

Try the HB Steinway Model D preset (with nothing more added to the name). I find it to be the best one.

Indeed, he produces a very good sound out of Pianoteq.

Pianoteq can be a pain as well believe it or not if you're not using the right curve. Previously i was using the "Moderately Fast keyboard" curve with around 40-42 db dynamics. Now i'm using the "Fast keyboard" curve with 36 db dynamics. Plays like a dream.

SSS is one of those needles in a haystack Steinways in terms of brilliance and clarity. Same applies to Art vista VG3.

Don't forget the car test and phone speakers test LOL. I call the former "the moment of truth" test :P

So many reverbs so little time. That reverb sounds great with Pianoteq. For my jam i used the Warm preset as well paired with Spaces II Northwest Hall, another reverb that fits like a glove with Pianoteq.

You can't beat hardware integration, as long as the sounds are not made in 1997 (maybe an exaggeration lol but you know what i mean). I still to this day regret selling my Kronos.

Side note regarding reverb: Even though i'm partial and biased towards the The Sunset Chamber in Seventh Heaven, i find that Fabfilter Pro-R works very well with Pianoteq. But again, i don't think Pro-R sounds bad with anything you slap it on. It's so good.

Nothing plays like the Ravenscroft. I'm a huge fan of VI Labs. They certainly have a secret sauce in terms of velocity-switching technology and what not.

It's fascinating how presets make it or break it in Pianoteq. I guess it's due to how sensitive and dramatic modeling is to the slightest tweaks.

You'll love the Steingraeber. Because if you're like me and you come from "team Ravenscroft", the Steingraeber will immediately sing to you when you play it. Some member on the pianoteq user forums even made an FXP for it called "Ravenscroft like" lol. I was using the "Steingraeber Warm"...

Aside from the incredible immersion in response, what shocked me was the car test. Only the Ivory II ACD may be on par in my book, in terms of clarity.
