Windows disk compression

I have always assumed that turning on disk compression in Windows 7 would slow down loading of audio files (especially in Kontakt, Vienna Instruments, UVI, etc.) and be a cause of performance issues. Today it dawned on me that the CPU cycles lost to decryption might be offset by the need to read fewer disk sectors. On the other hand, a lot of audio doesn't compress very well anyway (except drum loops).

So, should my sample and loop drives be compressed or not? Thanks in advance.

Don't do it, at least with Kontakt libraries you already have (in great majority of cases) losslessly compressed samples...

Thank you. In my list of factors to consider I left this one out. Another example is UVI.

In any case if your libraries are on SSDs, there's absolutely no reason to use disk compression. It would make sense on things like backup drives, for example.
