VSL Synchron Strings Pro Tutti/ combo's Poly Legato -How good is it ?

Hey,

I see a lot of praise for the VSL Synchron Strings Pro on here, but not much talk - about the Polyphonic legato feature in the tutti patch - Which would be of great interest to me, as there are few Ensemble String Libraries that do this, even less convincing.

So those with VSL , can you give me some more information about how Poly legato works in the Tutti and Combo patches - there is a Short video by VSL , and it sounds great there , but it does not give much info - How Many voices ? Is it true legato or just a sustain patch ?

So for those with the library, can you either tell me more about the quality and workings of the Polyphonic Legato, or if you have the time post a video exploring it in detail a little more :)

For example, is the patch good enough to Mock-up with , or would it serve only as a Sketch patch ? :)

If the Poly legato is good they should be really pushing this feature, before the sale ends tomorrow!

It's legato, and as many voices as your system can handle.
The total voice limit is set to 500 (streamed samples * mics * instrument-count, it adds up very quickly), but you can increase it if your system can handle it:

Sure: The transition up to an octave that is next to a current played note will be played (it's probably a little bit more complicated than this, there is quite some coding magic going on there).

Maybe someone in this community can answer your other questions :)

I've only tried it a little bit. I don't know about voice count and things like this. I've just ran some block chords tests and they sounded really good.

This is anyway not a feature that I'd use much outside of sketching as it forces you to use the exact same CC curves for each voice. You also lose the ability to mix each section separately (SSP needs taming of the highs in the violins but not in the other patches).

You can use the EQ available on each bus in the mixer for this (double-click to open).

The close, mid and back mics are all separat per instrument, but you can also split up the other signals and route them to separat busses.
Add a new bus and rename it via right-click -> rename

Go to EDIT, select the slot and choose "output config". A popup with a routing mixer will appear where you can change the routing for each mic of the slot to a different bus.

Ha! I thought about this as soon as I published my comment :)

Once again, it shows how advanced the Synchron Player is. It can do so much and then more.

I just wish I liked the sound more. I really wanted to because the new Synchron player is terrific and the VSL guys are really good people.

Simply give it a try and adjust the sound via the mixer in the Synchron Player.
A little EQ, Saturation and Compression and you will be a amazed how much you can influence the sound and change the character of it!

Why would I when already have three or four that sound the way I like, Ben?

And btw, respectfully, I hear more people do harm to the sound of libraries with EQ than good. And I would never compress strings unless I was going for an Epic sound, and I don't do epic.

That's often true, but I believe in your skills :)
And yes, for non-epic/modern cinematic music I would also not recommend to use too much compression. But some string libraries already come pre-compressed, and if you are after this, simply add a little bit to the Synchron Strings to get a similar sound.

Jay, I am not in love with the sound of the vis out the box but eq does have a useful effect on making them less brite. The other strings are fine and the tuttis are special and comprehensive beyond any other library. The tools to manipulate are unmatched at this point and the trial costs you nothing but a bit of nervousness if you are afraid you will like it.

I already have Synchron Strings 1, but not pro.
