@Ben After buying Elite Strings I want more Synchron stuff lol.
What piano would you recommend for general orchestral usage? The bosendorfer imperial and the concert d-274 are the ones that caught my attention the most, but I'm having trouble deciding between the two.

It depends on the style, personally I like the Bösendorfer Imperial a lot more, but if it gets too dark in combination with the orchestra I would switch to the Concert D.

Thank you @Ben and VSL for putting these up for demo. That's going to be a huge deciding factor.

How are you able to demo them, @FireGS? I'm interested in upgrading a couple of my standard libraries to full, but don't see the demo option!

I love Elite Strings (and the synchron player), so I definitely want to get me some more VSL. However, I am not an orchestral composer, so I wonder whether the Synchron piano's will fit my music (Indie, singer-songwriter stuff a la Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Peter Hammill etc). I am thinking maybe the Upright, or the Blüthner? Any advice? Also on standard vs full?
Also intrigued by the new organ. Seems you can make it sound just like you want...

Of the two pianos you mention, I'd say upright; I like it a lot. But you could also look at the far cheaper rain piano/vertikal in the Sampletekk sale. They're nowhere near as sophisticated, but they might have the vibe you're looking for.

Yes, definitly check out the Blüthner and the Bösendorfer Upright. The Blüthner has a more vintage sound (definitly get the Full to have access to all mics), the Upright sounds between an upright and a small concert piano, because of its huge size.

Congrats for the new page, looks really neat. Hope it will work for your sales rate as well :)

And awesome that academia is so easy to find - this is incredible source of knowledge

Trying the D-274 with the 30-day license. Man oh man i wish i bought this instead of the CFX.

Human nature, always wanting what they don't have.

I'm convinced by now this is my personal favorite VSL piano.

Thanks!
It was quite some work to get it done; it was one of my secret side-projects :)
And I'm also happy I could integrate a dark-theme alternative (btw, you can toggle the theme in the user-menu in the top-right corner. By default the site will use your browser's preference).

I hope you also like the new look and feel of the Academy; all score snippets were re-done so they are now super-smooth!

These all sound fantastic, wish I could use Ilok for licensing right now. I’ll need to wait for a future sale to indulge 😉

Which piano would be more suitable for the film music sort of sound (Thomas Newman, Craig Armstrong) instead of a more classical context?

I think the Bluthner Grand is ideal for this type of music. It has clarity, a full resonance and a unique treble range due to the 4th 'Aliquot' stringing patented by Bluthner. I've just upgraded to the full edition after enjoying the standard edition for about a year.
