Storage Server

I'm very close to maxing out my 1TB SSD (dedicated for VST). I have more VSTs coming in the future. I need additional storage, but I don't have extra slots on my motherboard. Is it possible to build a VST server and connect my computer to it over LAN? Will there be latency issues? If so, are there better interface alternatives for PC? RAID 0 or JBOD (I will likely be adding SSDs of different sizes in the future)?

For real-time use new Thunderbolt enclosures are Fast.
Some are even RAID 0 configurated, but that’s better suited for video.
JBOD about 4 x 1TB SSDs and you should have things wrapped up nicely.

Or if you’re not mobile, just get a nice Tower by NZXT, CoolerMaster or Tempered Glass beauties by Liam Li.

I never thought about Thunderbolt. Definitely considering it now.

I can DIY a server computer by buying parts. Two things I would like to know is what kind of CPU should be adequate? How much RAM? I've built PCs before, but never built a server. Basically, I don't want to pay more than it has to be, which I assume is light on resources for its intent and purpose.

Thank you!

Just get the cheapest RAM,fastest CPU and look at ASRock Workstation/Server boards @ ASRock Rack.com
Supermicro also has long life Server boards.
I recently built a server using Asus P10S mATX w/ Xeon E3 vrs.5 1275G.
Really nice, 3.8GHz.
Can’t see performance differences but in 5 years I’ll know if it was wise.
