Steinberg License Server Down

thank you, I saw that, let's hope they can find what the issue is, it's disappointing not to be able to use the software you have purchased. No update today though

It amazes me why they still use this method of copyright protection....after a bit of research it seems steinberg has been having issues for years....

Im new to VSL....and want to try Vep7 but this has out me off.....

what I find still more surprising is they haven't been able to track down the issue in three days... incidentally it's a VSL too product I'm waiting to install. Anyone from @Steinberg?

Heh, I bought from VSL on friday with plan to spend the weekend enjoying new library. Not this time unfortunately :( Never had issues before with elicenser and I know that things break sometimes, but 3 days long server outage? Damn, it must be very serious issue.

What surprises me is that it seems there isn't a backup system supplying for the primary system when it goes down. Unless they are both down, and this can be a really serious issue.

Yep. same problem here. I've been trying to install two programs since the 25th. Odd that this is taking so long.

at least there should be a page showing what they are doing and what's the progress.

Our apologies to all our customers who can't activate their new licenses at the moment.
I'm very sorry; unfortunally there is nothing we can do about it at the moment, but we are in close contact with Steinberg.
We were told us that the License Server required some maintanance work, and unfortunally it takes longer then initially estimated. We hope the server will be running soon!

In the meantime if you want to try out VEP7 I suggest to install the keyless demo from the product page. It does not require any activation, but you can't save the project with this version: https://www.vsl.co.at/Vienna_Software_Package/Vienna_Ensemble_PRO

It's actually bizarre when you consider the server isn't even having to operate some kind of cloud authorisation the way iLok does now. It's basically a giant database of keys with a cryptographic front-end to check the licence codes and transfer a blob of data to a remote machine when a new licence needs activating. I'd expect them to be able to be able to set up database replicator and a front-end traffic director and to do any upgrades behind the scenes before pulling the switch.

However, I'd bet that Steinberg didn't buy eLicenser because it was a good idea but because the original supplier was about to go under...and haven't invested more than they absolutely have to to keep it running. They might as well bite the bullet and find a way to switch themselves and other customers to a specialist like PACE or Codemeter (assuming they would want to keep the dongle). That would at least give them a path to online/cloud activation.

The abysmal quality of the client interface (at least on the Mac), where you can't even sort the licenses alphabetically, is actually not showing much love for this software. eLicenser has been the main source of troubles on my system.

The eLicenser License Server has re-started operations under close monitoring after having passed a stress test last night. We are optimistic that the situation is back to normal now, but of course, we stand by to react should further problems occur.
