SSD Format for Mac?

Hi..just got a Scandisk SSD external. I wanted to format it to APFS, but only Extended Journaled is an option...which is fine. But what is the "scheme"?

Master Boot Record
GUID Partition Map
Apple Partition Map

? differences? never seen this.

GUID is the standard scheme for Intel-based Macs. MBR and Apple are only needed for backward compatibility with older Windows versions and PowerPC-based Macs.
 
It's a Scandisk Extreme SSD...I had to format it to Extended Journaled first, then to APFS...I did use GUID Partition. Thank you.

I'm getting about 530MBs read speed. This is as good as my PCIe internal SSD on my 2012 Mac mini...just upgraded to 2018.
