Is the idea that the professional versions of these will be both the base + expansions as a single product / single price? And that those of us with base but no expansions won't be able to buy the expansions as an upgrade anymore?

CAN I PURCHASE THE EXPANSION PACKS AFTER THE PROMOTION?
This is your last chance to buy these Expansion Packs on their own, as they are being taken off sale on Thursday 23rd August at 23:59 (BST).

They will be back as part of a Spitfire Symphony Orchestra Professional product in the future, to which a crossgrade will be available

According to the above, you'll be able to purchase the expansion if you already own the base library by cross grading to their Professional version of the product. (when its released)

So my understanding of this is, if you purchase the expansion right now, you'll probably be able to get the professional version for free when its released.

But I'm surprised that its going to take them till next year to release a professional version. Because the SCS Pro was just a base+expansion combined product.
Maybe they're planning on refining stuff(?).

What's going on here? Did actually nobody purchase the expansions so far? I mean: Symphonic Strings Expansion 499€ -> 99€ ??? How do you explain that to a former purchaser of that pack?

BTW: Are there any current users out there? I was always wondering what the addition of e.g. the Leader Mic would add to the mix as in general I find the Tree Mics even when combined with close mics were missing a bit of clarity for me.

I always loved the kind of direct sound of the recordings found in Michael Kamen's original X-Man Soundtrack (e.g. The Death-camp track). Lush but still in your face. Would you be able to get a similar result with this mixed in?

This is clearly interesting... but is it worth it... not sure.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I think there's plenty to be gained from the extra mics & mixes, although I'm keen to hear what other people's experiences have been.

It's good enough tempt me, even though the AU$ is not so good.

I'm a bit confused as to whether the expansions will be available in future as crossgrades to the upcoming Pro products (whatever they are), or if that means if you have the expansion already, you can then crossgrade to whatever the Pro products are. I assume the former?

@SpitfireSupport I would really value some demonstrations of these expansion packs - for me the brass especially is appealing to expand. Weirdly enough I'm interested more in the stereo mixes than the individual extra microphones, since the amount of RAM required to use all the microphones at once is quite prohibitive. In something like CSS or BWW, there is a mix mic which I predominantly use, so I'm looking for an equivalent in your brass.

Yeah. Can't even find an audio example.

Are we suppose to just take their word that they are allegedly worth $449

I would imagine just the testing alone to combine libs for all three of these would be a colossal undertaking, with the sheer volume of samples we're talking about here. They make their products look simple on the surface, but that's the beauty of good design. Underneath there's a boatload of stuff there to get right.

So when they are re-released as SSO Professional, will they only be purchasable as one package for the entire orchestra, rather than as individual sections? Will anything change about the way they are installed or used? If we take SCS Pro as an example, then the future product will probably be similar in functionality (and content) to the current expansions. The timeframe indicated does make it sound like there's more involved however... hmm...

I'd certainly be interested in getting outrigger mics for the brass, though I'm not sure if I would need all the other mic options for woodwinds and strings at this stage. It's a fantastic deal but I'd be hard-pressed to free up nearly 500 GB of SSD space for all three!

Answers to a couple of questions -

1. I can't link you to walkthroughs or demos. These expansion packs were released largely due to demand from customers that knew the content existed in the legacy libraries that make them up, we did not spend a huge amount of time "marketing" them. This is one of the things we will be doing when we release them as part of the Professional Symphony Orchestra. Part of the reason that they are so cheap right now is because we appreciate that it's a leap of faith (one we hope you won't regret of course).

2. The plan is to have a professional version of each library (Brass, Strings, Woodwind) and a product called Symphony Orchestra Professional (or something similar). Of course, if you buy it piecemeal, it will cost more. The exception to that rule is that the price that is available today for the expansion packs represents the best value that you will ever see for that content.

@SpitfireSupport : Are there any plans to improve the legatos?
There's lots of inconsistence in all available legato modes that make it a real pain to use in lots of situations. Despite tweaking the available controls, the timing sometimes is completely messed up...

Am I correctly remembering the history with Spitfire Chamber Strings Professional, in which I believe people who bought the expansion prior to the firesale thereof got the Professional version for free, but people who only got the expansion at its firesale price still had to pay something to crossgrade to the Professional version? Whereas people like me who didn't have the expansion at all got a $99 crossgrade to Professional once it was available?

If the above is accurate, and if they follow a similar pattern with the Symphonic series (which I realize isn't guaranteed), then regardless of how enticing this sale is, it seems to me that it could be more cost-efficient for me to wait until the Professional version comes out (especially since, in my case, I don't have the SSD space to actually install the expansions right now anyway).

But if I had the SSD space and any sort of current need for the extra mics, then this sale would be a really, really welcome one.

For those wondering about what these mics sound like, this recent War Horse mockup I did is 90% Outriggers/Ambient, as well as the Flute using a fair bit of Gallery. Although unofficial hopefully it gives you guys a good idea of what you can expect from the expansions.

EDIT: Someone mentioned above that Andy Blaney also uses a lot of Outriggers - that's true. The real giveaway with Outriggers is the 'width' and 'distance' you hear in the soundstage.
