Big NKS Fan !
Took note of this quote from Vol. 2 Announcement: 'We are absolutely thrilled to finally bring you the beginning of Angel Strings - Volume Two, which will be released as a series of libraries. The decision to do this was taken due to the fact that each of these are highly specialised, and it is far better to be able to choose exactly which sounds you'd like to add to your composing palette!'

I was recently asked if the spiccatos were difficult to play (sorry if i gave that impression). The answer is no. They are quite easy to play and have a nice attack!

The staccatos, however have a much slower response, and aren't really capable of playing anything fast.

Thanks for the heads up. I had planned on skipping this until I saw your video, there are a few good arts that make it a decent deal at $55.

For those that don’t want to use up 32GB on your SSD (mine was 34GB) AND would like things to load faster and play smoother. I suggest using your Kontakt full to compress it to a lean 14.59GB.

First open the oldest version of Kontakt standalone you’d like it to be in. The website says Kontakt 4, but I’m skeptical (could be). I opened it in Kontakt 5.42, but it will open in any version and be forward compatable.

You don’t have to open the patches, under file menu just select “collect samples/batch compress”- pick the source folder (Angel strings) and destination (I created a new folder with “NCW” at the end to tell me this is the compressed version). Then process. The conversion will take a while (maybe 40 minutes here?) but it will do all the work AND resave all the patches, so you don’t even have to do that. Works like a charm, loads fast now, AND saved me about 20GB. :)

Is anyone else having issues with the envelope on the mixer page? I can't seem to get it to engage after turning it on.

Good catch. I'm experiencing the same thing as well. That's really odd.

I just sent Auddict an email. I'll keep this thread posted.

Same here... I can't even see whether it's turned on or not haha. But that's for all controls.
The envelope really doesn't seem to work at all. Really odd since that's quite a substantial and obvious issue and the library is not that new. From last year I think...

Thanks to you both for confirming! I was planning to email support but it looks like Mike beat me to it. :)

I bought it and absolutely love it! As advertised, unusual string articulations... from beautiful odd sustains to crazy horror effects.

I made a little track with the lovely longs and a bit of shorts... in 40 minutes or so, pretty rough - extremely busy ATM. (used too much sul pont tremolo among other issues on my end haha)

No processing except a little bit of reverb, some panning and one patch has a reversed stereo channel.
I only had the library for a few minutes beforehand so one can certainly do a better job after some time...
With EQ it will obviously sound even better... generally an abuser of EQ but I thought I leave it raw since it's nice to have rather unprocessed examples.

You know, I was perfectly happy not owning this library before you went and posted that.

(Lovely piece though).

There is an on/off button on the left that lights up when each module is on (really a bypass on/off that lights up when off).

To check the envelope, turn it on and adjust controls, then go under the hood you of Kontakt to see the if envelope has changed (wrench icon, under modulations). You may need to make sure all the groups are selected first.

Since it looks like it was made for Kontakt 4, the scripting should be fairly straight forward.

Were you able to get the interface envelope to work? For me the ring of light indicates that the filter and envelope are on and not bypassed. Controls for the interface envelope only affect Multi and not Volume under Kontakt's modulation.

Also, moving either Cutoff or Resonance brings CPU to 100%. I wonder if these are Kontakt 6 issues.

I found the same thing. Envelope controls are actually controlling the multiple hi pass and low pass filters in Slots 0 through 5 that are suppose to be controlled by the Resonance Filter controls (that power button still works to bypass or activate the chosen filter though).

The script must be messed up and has the envelope controls adjusting the envelope for those filters (the multi) instead of the volume envelope above it (including the bypass switch). Not sure how this was missed this whole time but I hope they can fix the script soon (simple enough, they just got the envelope slot location wrong).

For now a work around would be to click the wrench icon, select all the groups (select the first, then hold shift which selecting the last), then scroll down to control the volume envelope at the bottom of the page. Not ideal but it does work. Keep in mind this would affect all the samples. To just change some (like sustains) it would involve finding the effected groups and just selecting those. There are many (around 400) but they are at least labeled. :)

That's a weird issue... well, thanks for the workaround! I use individual tracks for all articulations anyway and thus the universal envelope effect will be fine but I hope they'll fix this.

I should send this to the developers

You should. It suggest a very different lens through which to understand the library from the official demos (which are good, but in a style(s) that does nothing to suggest that I need this library).

Just wondering though - do you have LCO, or any general thoughts on Angel Strings vis-a-vis LCO?

Unusual that they're not compressed really.

Have back up so I can load the WAV's into sound design stuff anyway.

Hehe, I won't... feel like that's some kind of spamming. But I also remember listening to some of the demos and didn't think I want it... but the walkthrough then convinced me with some of these beautiful sustains.
And, no I don't have LCO, if you meant to ask me specifically.

Well, DS's track made me want to get this, but the fact that Mike hasn't gotten any reaction from the developers kinda destroyed it for me. I'm kinda sad about that.
