Ondes Martenot (Soniccouture)

Does anyone know much about this plugin and if it's a good Kontakt Vst? I've been a bit intrigued by this rare instrument ever since I got the Bernard Herrman Toolkit as it was included as a patch. Other than a couple inspiring videos of the actual instrument there's really not a lot of info on the web or a video walkthough of the plugin interface so wanted to know what others thought who owned or had experience with it.
Currently on sale for $79 (normally $119) plus we can add the 20 discount code for an extra savings

This was my first or second Kontakt library. I've only used it a few times but I don't regret the purchase. The patches could be organised better in my opinion, but I have no real complaints about the product.

A rather niche instrument, if you have a need for a Radiophonic Workshop, Theremin type vibe it works well. Everything the company has done has been very classy. Those sale prices are a incredible once a year opportunity.

The Ondes Martenot and Theremin are 2 totally different instruments that do not sound the same at all. I have the Soniccoultre instrument and it is rather niche but I got it on a sale and don't regret buying it. The Soundiron theremin is great but IMHO the Wavelore Etherphone is a better functional theremin.
Herrmann and Maurice Jarre both used the Ondes quite well in their scores.

I have it and really like it. Soniccouture not only does a great job sampling, but they put together many design patches from the samples and this is no exception. Lots of cool stuff besides the classic sounds we know so well. The controls are great too, much more than what's in The BH lib. You won't regret it.

What’s the 20 discount code?

Picked it up today. Been on my list for a while. First impression, you will have to work on creating the layers of expressivity with vibrato, swells & note smearing with automation. Soniccouture provides a relatively easy to implement matrix for applying the various modes of expression to standard CCs. It doesn't operate like a standard Ondes Martenot but the compromises are reasonable as you can largely get the Martenot thing going. If you are into Varese and the early avant garde, it is pretty much impossible to turn away from this as it was so central to the development of electronic music in its infancy.

Here's a Messiaen piece for the Ondes Martenot.

Here's a contemporary reading of Varese's Ecuatorial which features a couple of Ondes Martenot. These were scored for the piece which was intially performed in the late 30s.

I have not yet had a chance to put it into work, but I tested it extensively. I was lucky enough to record a real Martenot a couple times, prepared and performed by a great player. Soniccouture perfectly captured the sound(s) and interface of the original instrument. Plus more. A lot of fun to play it! I only regret not having a long ribbon controller…

I agree on the ribbon controller. I was thinking aout how this would wok with a ROLI seaboard. I love the sound and the mood it creates. Plus, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new one. TBH, if I had the cash, I would get a new one!

OT, but what a good performance of the Varese. Thanks for posting it. I think ppl would enjoy this kind of modernist music more if they heard better performances, like this. They are out there (thanks to this conductor, Boulez, et. al.) but so many of the recordings in libraries are old and bad; ppl listen for a minute and think, 'what is this crap?'.

I also think a roli seaboard would be great to emulate this but I’m afraid I have not found a good library for that...

Hello everyone! Sorry for coming (very) late to this thread  but I just found it looking for Ondes on VI-C. I just posted some more info about this and a few similarly rare instruments in the thread where I introduced my latest track Be Wary of the Török !

I just though that some of you might find some of the info presented there interesting...
