I decided to pick up K6 on the last day of the summer sale for $120 - figured I’d need it at some point between now and next summer and I don’t want to pay twice that amount when I do. So, where do I go from here? What nice free or cheap libraries do I have access to that I should know about?

Part of Pulsesetter-Sounds.com
we have a couple of free ones at www.pulsesetter.com

but they are made for kontakt5 so it doesnt have the cool delay and reverb kontakt 6 has.

but also, you can go to the front page here in VI and every company that advertises has a free kontakt freebie library.

My Spitfire LABS libraries function via the Spitfire Player. Can LABS libraries be downloaded for Kontakt at this point?

Orchestral Tools's free, recent Layers library requires its SINE Player. Going forward, I would expect any free OT libraries to require SINE.

In addition to those on your list, Soniccouture has a number of free libraries plus a free collection of Moonkits loops. In some cases recently, downloading free Soniccouture libraries has resulted in receiving a 30% discount code within a couple of days.

Dan Keen's sample library from his viola has been very successful on Pianobook. It's available for both Kontakt and Logic Sampler/ESX24.

Keen, who is a Masters student at the Royal College of Music, uploaded the main library, called Soft String Spurs, in January: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/library/soft-string-spurs/

In April, he uploaded a supplement, Soft String Spurs Extras: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/library/soft-string-spurs-extras/

He's also made two videos about the library.

"Sampling my Viola - Soft String Spurs":

"Soft String Spurs Extras!" (substance starts at 01:15):

As someone brand new to Kontakt (just downloaded the player over the weekend) I’m kind of envious you got the full version at such a great price.

Can anyone tell me if deals like that come around very often?

Every June. Best to get one of the free player libraries unless you bought a player library. Then crossgrade during the sale

Good to know... thanks! I downloaded a bunch of stuff that work with just the player, so I should be good for a bit. (...knowing full well that stumbling across something I think is cool that requires the paid version would be an overwhelming temptation.)
