For a long time, I did commercial/sync music (mostly non trailer) with a company, but recently I found a sync company that takes a 30% fee off the top, and you retain ownership and publishing of your song. The old company takes ownership of the song and 50% publishing, and splits everything 50/50 with you. The songs for the new company are full proper songs and not like 30-60 second cues, but then again, some of the songs for the first company are full songs too.
I've only done trailer music through the first company, and I'm wondering, is there a successful trailer label/trailer house (not sure what the term is) that takes less than 50%? Or is the business just very different?
