They're my go to's for saturation and wow/flutter but is there one that also does half speed effects or that you just generally recommend or the waves ones?

If you're looking for something not so subtle, RC-20 from XLN is great.
It comes with bit crusher, vinyl fx and other modules as well.

For half speed Cableguys' HalfTime is pretty good.

For raw tape sound (a.k.a. saturation and biasing): CraneSong's "Phoenix". For everything else tape machine-related (e.g. noise reduction systems and their abuse ;) ...): U-He's "Satin".

u-He's Satin is great. However, it comes with a (steep) learning curve that gets intuitive only if one understands the logic behind, since it really models what's going on (the manual is great btw...).
E.g. there is no simple EQ involved, rather by tweaking different parameters you change the frequency response.

XLN RC-20 does a great job at imperfections, wobble and saturation, but it's not a "perfect tape simulation" like Softube Tape.

I'll add Slate Digital's Virtual Tape Machines plugin to the list. Here's a review from Sound On Sound:

I use the Slate VTM. Have heard great things about Satin but never tried it.

I'll second Softube Tape. It's a great "vibe" plugin. Given that it's u-he, Satin is definitely a safe bet, and I really liked it when I demo'd it, but the folks at Softube are no slouches either!
