EWHO Strings - how to make them sound less synthy? (is this possible without the close mic position?)

To be clear, they generally sound 'good' and often 'great', but I noticed there's distinct lack of bite in the Gold edition, even with the short patches, that make them sound a bit like synth pads. I was curious after doing some research if it had to do with a lack of close mic'ing.

Please, feel free to tell me I'm using them completely wrong because I am def a noob with this but I did notice in other, quite good, EWHO demos that the strings are bit retreated.

If they sound like synth pads, they are being poorly orchestrated and/or performed, period.

Yeah, they don't sound synthy and if they do then different mic positions won't solve the problem.

Most likely you're playing keyboard pad parts rather than string pad parts - which string players hate even when they're written well (they call them Easter eggs ).

well -- you could get the Diamond? I almost never use the mic position that comes with Gold.
