East West Hollywood Brass, bigger sections for epic sound?

Here are 4 points you might consider :

    1-
HB is not small, have you consider that you can harmonize sections ?
Lets take the 6 Horns patch and write an open fifth = root + fifth + octave. You now hear 18 horns playing... Already an overkill imo.

2-You might argue that the legato pathes are monophonic, and if you want these 18 Horns at unison, it would be the same sample overdubbed, which is pretty wrong... In Play 6 you can pitch a legato patch one semitone lower or higher and then in the sequencer transpose the corresponding midi channel (midi modifier) to compensate. If you do this for 2 "6 Horns Patch" over 3, you'll have 3 different recordings playing a unison line, in theory it will acts just like a Round Robin "neighbours zones".
Huge bonus: Play6 will not load 3 times the samples, only one time.

3-Bigger sections don't particularly sound bigger, the texture is just different. The french approach of orchestration is "Less is More". John Williams uses this approach all the time when he submits his "ready to orchestrate" score to the orchestrator. In short, making room for a solo instrument has more impact than adding layers over layers.
His music is Epic AF, right?

4-Hollywood Brass is a dryer library than Cinebrass or Berlin Brass but I think that's awesome, a large studio sounds so epic to me, plus you can always add reverb.
Listen to "Back to the Future 2" from Alan Silvestri, the recording is very very dry.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Have you tried the "Main" and "Surround" mic positions? They give a lot more air.

I think "epic" has more to do with composition than section sizes.

Absolutely. More epic than HB? Isn't a whole lot further you can go.

I have a mixed history with EW so I think it carries even more weight when I say that it's *fantastic*. That and Hollywood Strings are truly great libraries. The brass does more than just epic. I only have gold and I'm waiting on an upgrade deal at which point I'll jump on it.

I'm looking at HWB at the moment and the price difference between Gold ($90) and Diamond ($160) is pretty dramatic--like nearly double.

I'm wondering if folks have advice as to whether Diamond is worth paying the extra plus the extra resources it'll require to run it? I have a gut feeling many are just using Gold and not missing the extras, but maybe I'm wrong.

hard to beat the November deal - HW Brass and Strings Diamond both for

    $354.87

and both clocking in at less than 500gb installed, they will fit neatly on my fresh m.2-2tb.

Absolutely a no brainer : ) Most of us here paid $1499.99 for HW Strings upon the initial release date!
Still to this day no regrets here ; )
I will gladly pay it again if they update the playability ;p (~Cough~ CSS Strings, Century Strings are great models : )

I personally don't feel it's worth it. I've been using the gold version for quite some time now, and never felt the "need" to upgrade.

No problem. Even though the Woods and the Perc are not as good as the Strings and the Brass, for 18 bucks it's a no-brainer.

I just hope you don't need to buy a new SSD because of me ;)
