Hi, I compose a lot of new-age music with cpu-heavy synths like omnisphere, diva, serum and etc, and also use a lot of sample libraries like Spitfire. I'm not sure if I should aim to purchase ones with high clock speed (ie. I9-9900k) vs. more cores (like I9- X series).

I would aim for speed especially for the synths you mentioned and also Kontakt TM patches

Single core speed always first, then the more cores you can get the better.

    9900K is gonna be great.

That will presumably be the one to put at the center of an upcoming machine needed to run Cubase for music production (i.e., one ultra-fast core) and Premiere Pro/After Effects/Fusion/Resolve for hi-res video NLE (i.e., as many cores as possible . . . and then faster is always nicer), yesno?

Yes. And Cubase WILL use those other cores as well, don't worry. It's just important that they're fast first, and their count comes secondary to that.
