Sure thing. Also, MSS had legato lookahead enabled. Someone more experienced with the library than me will have to weigh in on whether better transitions can be obtained with lookahead disabled. I won’t be able to experiment more before tomorrow.

IIRC the on/off keyswitch is velocity-sensitive, but check the manual.

I can’t really agree, but I spent many years with VSL libraries that took far more effort and tweaking to make them sound somewhat convincing. MSS seems pretty easy in comparison.

Feedback is welcome! I think you own this library? I generally wouldn't post a mock-up of a library I've owned for less than two days, but there wasn't one already here for MSS. I'm still not happy with the same-note rebows, but probably need to dive into the manual to see what I'm doing wrong.

I've updated the MSS example again, this time making use of Modern Scoring String's bloom legato, and selective use of portamento. This isn't how I'd EQ it if I had my way, but I wanted to faithfully represent the out-of-the-box sound.

Well, they aren't giving up much. According to The Verge, the M1 Ultra has comparable multi-core performance to their 32-core Threadripper. Yes, I'm aware 64-core Epyc CPUs exist (I use Epyc servers on a daily basis), but that kind of power consumption and noise don't belong in a desktop system.

I agree with all of this. I have about 15 TB of SSD storage in my 2019 Mac Pro, including the boot drive. The boot drive doesn't store any sample data. It gets cloned regularly to another SSD via CCC. The SSD volumes containing samples are periodically backed up to a NAS device via CCC...

This is a fair question, and I'd like to hear feedback on the legato as well. Legato may not be everything, but certain developers have been raising the standard of late. How does Orchestral Strings compare?

I have the current-generation iPad Pro M1 12.9" with 16 GB of RAM and StaffPad occasionally crashes here, too, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Keep in mind that a 2019 iPad Pro 12.9" gets you 6 GB of RAM, which is three time as much as a first-generation iPad Pro 11".

I've also seen something like this happen in Vienna Ensemble Pro when loading Kontakt instruments, before having a client connected to the server instance. Once the client DAW connects to the VE Pro server, the Kontakt interface fixes itself. Weird, I know.

Yes, macOS still supports JBOD ("Just a Bunch Of Disks") with APFS. Running it across several NVMe drives here.
