In a World of The Medieval Era... (Trailer)

I recently made a channel trailer. It explains the purpose with my channel, mainly that of history short films, 3D animated reconstructions of ruins from the medieval times. In the past year or so, I've also started making short films/documentaries. The voice over is AI, though I think the...

Giving 8Dio Deep Solo Violin a try on traditional Irish folk music

Since I bought 8Dio Deep Solo Violin a couple of years ago, I wasn't really happy with the VST. The violin sounds "stiff" and "mechanical", especially the legato patch, even when applying MIDI CC Dynamics. That was, until now when I feel I've finally managed to get an idea of how to use it...

A little Cinematic Studio Orchestra piece (Journey of a Snowflake)

Nice composition/arrangement - and nice winds/strings. Though I feel you could work a bit more on the dynamics of the strings. Right now they come to a sudden stop. I think fading on the dynamics and the expression as well near the end of the legato notes would improve this. It would be the...

Gregorian Chant Soundtracks + Original animations of medieval churches

Thanks. Yes, jeg er dansker (I'm a Dane). Agreed, 8Dio Silka is a really good choice for such music, though I wish I had more phrases to choose from. The library has a very limited vocabulary. And it isn't even latin (just nonsense).

Gregorian Chant Soundtracks + Original animations of medieval churches

I have a hobby re-constructing medieval castles, churches and abbeys as 3D-animations, and composing medieval-like soundtracks. My latest creations are that of Canute Lavard's Chapel from around 1150 and the follow-up romanesque cathedral of Ringsted. Both are situated in Denmark. The choir...

    For the strings

Nice composition. I like the solo violin, it sounds almost real. There's a few suggestions I'd like to point out: The first is to make the violin even more dynamic by sometimes making it play pp or ppp, which is very, very soft for a violin, especially when the violin doesn't play short notes...

    "Authentic" sounding medieval music

    How convincing is this...?

The strings sound terrible. Not convincing at all. What's specifically missing in the strings are the legato transitions/bow changes and lack of a dynamic vibrato. You can't fix that with reverb or other effects. I've heard virtual violins sounding pretty convincing. Such as the Virharmonic...

    Folklore inspired lively dance

Some critique - though everything is a matter of taste, this is just my personal opinion. I Hope it's useful for developing your music - if not, you let me know: 1. Too much going on. Too many voices all at once. Usually when you make counterpoint, you have the melodic and countermelodic...

Crusader Sword - Medieval Film Soundtrack

Definitely, except that it has such a limited vocabulary... and the fact that the words are nonsense. I'd wish a library existed where you can get the Silka-sound and dynamics + playability, but with actual latin phrases, and lots of them. 50 phrases should do it.

My personal favorites are the ones from 8Dio and Performance Samples. I only know of their solo violin (Peformance Samples), but I've heard the ensemble strings from them, and they sound really good as well. I own the 8Dio Adagio, I don't know if it's available anymore under that name, but I...

    Where To?

Some critique - I hope it's helpful: If you're going to have long string notes with little to no melodic content, you need a better sounding string library. The Ghost's Lament

I like the idea and the visuals. Though the thing that happens at 1:50-1:59 doesn't work for me. It happens again around 2:45 and from 3:00 the staccatos are definitely out of sync. In all honesty I think you should work on the sync. There are lots of elements that just sounds like they were...

A short piece inspired by Arvo Pärt

I'd recommend the 8Dio string libraries for music like this. But right now your music sounds too midi-ish. You need to play it yourself, and also draw dynamics curves (midi-cc 1 & 11) for the strings. 8Dio is kind of expensive, but it's way better sounding than any other libraries I've come...

Well, to be honest - I don't like the string sounds. I can hear you've already made some midi-CC-dynamics, but it just isn't enough and I think it is the string library you used. The violins sounds too "hard", they need more softness, so to speak, and more vibrato. You also need more reverb...
