    Recent New Low for SoundCloud

Pretty sure this has been a problem for months. I think the SC guys have been attempting to clean this nonsense up for some time now.

    Spitfire Chamber Strings -- wow

If a developer is not interested in posting a detailed changelog, it's probably because there aren't any major changes worth documenting; and if they're being deliberately vague with this information, they want you to think there's more to this update than there actually is. Pardon me if I'm...

    Spitfire Chamber Strings

From the SCS thread, I gathered it was just a repackaging of the same samples with a tighter patch organization and a newer UI.

    Dry String Libraries

+1 to Ashermusic and Johnny. The Divisi mics in HS are surprisingly effective for dry strings and often overlooked. Even I didn't know/care about them until I upgraded to Diamond recently. You can dial in the stereo close mics for a thicker sound—and maybe a little bit of the Mids or the...

Spitfire Chamber Strings - EXPANSION PACK - Has Landed

That's unfortunate (and a bit odd, considering they don't share samples). Well, thanks for the prompt reply. :)

Spitfire Chamber Strings - EXPANSION PACK - Has Landed

Question: Is the expansion usable as a standalone package? Can I use the additional mics without the primary SCS package?

Spitfire Chamber Strings - EXPANSION PACK - Has Landed

What's the deal with the legato, though? Sounds really "pitchy"—not sure how else to describe it—and a bit weird to me. Regardless, great walkthrough! SCS surely has a mouth-watering assortment of articulations.

First Libraries - CSS vs. CineStrings

CSS > CineStrings, imo. I want to say "Hollywood Orchestra"—because that's what I use almost exclusively—but you'd require a hefty PC for getting the best out of it and the PLAY engine goes bonkers at times. If you can remember what those high-end libraries were, maybe we can find cheaper...

    8DIO Century Brass

Wow, Century Brass does not sound very good. It seems to me they have over-processed the samples too. Whatever the case, if this is close to the final product, I'd recommend even the ol' EWQLSO over this—and that's a 12 year old library! Big fan of HB here too. :2thumbs:

    Cinematic Studio Strings

This is exactly what bothers me too! I love the lush, dark tone of CSS but, to me, it sounds similar to a blended string section with half playing con sordino and the other normale—I'm not sure how flexible this tone can be. Plus, I already have a decent collection of string libraries, and HS...

    Spitfire Chamber Strings Announced

I never really liked the fragmented setup of Sable and Mural to begin with, so this repackaging is favourable to me—but what the content that was supposed to fill up some of the articulation gap across sections? I can't tell if that's still "missing" or included in this new package. My guess is...

Z170 vs X99 motherdboards and related CPUs

With relation to audio/music production, the only meaningful difference is the processor line-up for the Z170 and X99 chipsets. The new Broadwell-E family (6 to 10 core processors) plug into the X99 chipset. Unless you want to get these right now, there's no reason to go X99. If you go Z170 and...

EQ for con sordino in CS2

I don't have CS2, but I did listen to the official demos. I assume that the most prominent left-panned violins in the demos are the 1st Violins. This is very rough because the reverb / room tone throws me off, but it should get you started: 1) Carve out mids: Cut 6dB at ~2.9kHz with a 1.25...

EW Hollywood Strings Gold legato issue

Apologies for the delay; I can also confirm that the strange transition is present across multiple mics in Diamond. Of course, it's more noticeable in some mics than in the others—it's more prominent in the Mid mics (Gold default) than in the Main mics (Diamond default). For the sake of Gold...

EW Hollywood Strings Gold legato issue

Try applying the HS Gold 2.0.5 update and see if it fixes the problem. Worth a shot but I think most of these sample issues extend into the Diamond edition patches as well. I remember some fellow had posted a nice list of sample issues in several patches—especially the legato patches—many...

Does i7-5820k support 128 gb memory?

Forgot to mention, OP: if you're getting 128 gigs, do take a look at ASRock's QVL list for the Extreme 4 and try to go for whatever RAM is on the list. Yeah, I've been messing with non-K processors for a slave too. Unfortunately, overclocking the non-K versions is currently very unstable. Mobo...

Does i7-5820k support 128 gb memory?

There's little benefit to using ECC RAM for this line of work.

No, you should be fine as it is in both cases. :2thumbs:

Macbook pro flash memmory up to SSD speeds?

It's not Kontakt or the CPU at fault, it's just that, in most cases, sample files are so small that SSDs rarely build up to their max read speeds. Top speed does does benefit loading very large sample libraries, though. A lot of writes is no longer an issue with current gen. SSDs because they...

Does i7-5820k support 128 gb memory?

The ASRock X99 Extreme 4 should top out at 128gb RAM. Also, don't cheap out on the PSU, do get a good one for that 5820k! If you're not in a hurry, I'd wait till the next batch of 6th gens from Intel due soon. They'll be Broadwell-E (X99 chipset) and they top out at an awesome 10 cores.

Drats! As usual, I'm late to the party. I missed this release entirely.

Time to get a new Mac, what specs should I get?

For the software you currently use, the only real issue with your current Macbook Pro is its storage capacity. If you can find an upgrade option for it, I'd suggest you do that instead and wait for the 2016 Macbook refresh to throw $$$ at.

Macbook pro flash memmory up to SSD speeds?

Afaik, in this particular case "flash" should be referring to PCI-E based SSDs as opposed to your traditional SATA SSDs. It's fairly commonplace for Apple to not go into the 'details' of the specifications so as to not bring attention to the quality of the stuff inside (which is usually sub-par...

    EW Stormdrum 3 special headscratcher

@EastWest Lurker Are "additional licenses" different from normal licenses? For instance, if I don't own SD3 or Spaces atm and purchased an "additional license" through this deal, will I have a fully licensed working product? If yes, then that's a neat discount. EDIT: Nevermind...

Why is albion I being discontinued?

I think he's thinking of the older Symphonic Orchestra and not the newer Hollywood series.

    !! spitfire - evo grid #4 woodwinds - ** promo price ends today 18th sept 2015 **

I have the same queries as TeamLeader. How's the room in the Evo series? Do the different Evo sections fit in well together? How well do they sit with Albion IV, and BML? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

** FURIA Staccato Strings by Impact Soundworks - Starting at $0!

I'm hoping that this implies there is a FURIA SCORING STRINGS in the pipeline. I thought Bravura was pretty cool but it's not something I need atm.

Why is albion I being discontinued?

I hope this leads to some kind of "BML Ensembles." I'd buy that in a heartbeat! :inlove:

What would I get out of Albion?

I think you already have a good sample collection that covers the content offered in Albion 1. So unless you're looking for that specific sound unique to Spitfire's offerings, maybe you should hold on to your $$$. ;)

    Hollywood Orchestra Upgrade

I recently upgraded from HO Gold to Diamond when they had the huge discount going on. All of the 16-bit HO Gold samples were replaced with 24-bit HO diamond samples shipped on a hard drive. A word of caution: if you're planning to upgrade to Diamond, I'd strongly recommend that you get...

Polishing music so that it sounds like an old recording?

If you owned HS Diamond, mixing in the Vintage mics may get you that sound. As for tools, I think these guys got the good ones covered.

Spitfire - Albion ONE - New v1.2 Update Details

If Albion 1 is being retired, I think something along the lines of BML Ensembles will take its place—similar to Mural Ensembles but with selections from BML brass and winds.

SSD Raid 0 vs separate drives

Raid 0 works by splitting data across multiple hard disks ("striping"), with the goal of maximizing file transfer speed. However, it doesn't reduce seek time and will most likely increase seek time considerably owing to the small size and large count of sample files. What Wooloomooloo is...
