    Samplers like Alchemy for Cubase?

Reaktor sure, if you can organize it's mess, and do some customization, it's more powerful than Alchemy in the long run. As mentioned and especially if you are in Cubase, HALion is a great option, super deep, Lua scripting as well.

    What's the deal with templates?

Templates save time because of routing routines, sends and as mentioned loading names, colors, articulations maps and the like. The downsides are being faced with the same tracks even though 1000+ to where you develop routines and reaching for the same stuff. Some say that you write the...

Aiva - Artificial Intelligence Composition: beta starting today

These tools will never be more than an assistant to the process of composing, like Rapid Composer, to automate some of the grunt work, like show me the 24 ways to modulate to X key. A 200 tracks project with a 1m:45s save time ....

Personally I use all single instrument tracks. I like the simplicity for mixing and what not. No VEP for me, tried it and hated it. I forgot about offending libraries, yes Action Strikes, 8Dio Anthology, slow everything down, maybe others. I am saving to an nVME drive, and my projects were at...

    A 200 tracks project with a 1m:45s save time ....

That's abnormal. I built templates of 1000+ tracks, mostly single Kontakt instances all disabled to start, and save times with nothing activated was around 3 seconds. Once I activated some 25+ tracks, my saves were 10 seconds or so.

Yup, you can build an 8 core i9 with 128GB ram Hackintosh, fairly cheaply right now, and it's relatively painless, was for me at least. Not sure about the future, but that's enough machine to do some serious work and make enough $$$ to afford the big boy Mac Pro...
