Ready To Build a PC for VI Composing? Here's My Pick, Under $2300 and It Screams.

I don’t like building with gigabyte despite the vrms either... been buying asus by default for years and with a little air cooling never experienced any issue with the vrm temp or any instability even at higher overclocks. I think that for someone like OP who I presume does not necessarily have...

    Sibelius review...

Sibelius is the worst software I use by a truly great margin and I totally agree with the video, although not with all the points he makes. Unfortunately, it's the best we have. If I had time, I'd switch to Dorico.

9900k, no discussion about it. Can take 128 GB (don't let anyone tell you otherwise). Also: 5 to 8 years? Are you kidding? http://www.scanproaudio.info/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Dawbench-Vi-Test-Chart.jpg

$3100 Mac Pro 2013 64gb Ram - too good to be true?

Fully agree with all of you about the Mini throttling issue being pathetic. Full disclosure: I performed the tim replacement for a friend who ordered the 8700b on day one and had purchased the double density sodimms in advance. The cooler is copper-core and I coated the chip around the package...

    Staffpad or Symphony pro/Notion iOS

They all ultimately inhibit my workflow, so I don‘t use any of them anymore...Just Sibelius with a keyboard or paper. I guess if you invest the time, they can be strong. Tried Notion, it was OK. I just got annoyed at having to find a toolbar to input a note when I can do it on paper quicker and...

    IMac i7 5k or Mac Pro 6,1?

If the iMac Pro "costs too much", you should consider how much money per unit of performance you are getting from a Mac Pro, which just turned 5 years old today. If you have displays, buy a Mac Mini if you desperately need a computer running Mac OS which is made by Apple.

    External SSD Optimization/Formatting Tips?

it makes zero difference in speed. APFS is essentially just JFS+ with some extras. Use whichever, but Apple is definitively going to be moving over to APFS for everything, so it might make things easier in the long run. The theoretical maximum for SATA 3 is 600 MB/s, so realistically, you're...

Windows 10 settings / stuff you can turn off for music?

Advice on a new PC for Cubase/film work. i7, i9, AMD, Xeon...

I feel this whole discussion has escalated slightly to unreasonable levels. Re 9900k vs 7960x: depending on workload, it might be well worth going for the 7960x but the 9900k will offer a very large part of the 7960x's performance for less money. Even more if overclocked. Re Noctua vs...

Do you have a specific reason for recommending the basin falls chips? Advice on a new PC for Cubase/film work. i7, i9, AMD, Xeon...

The current 1151 chips have support for 128gb of ram (z390 chipset). You just need the new double capacity (double height) RAM modules. Socket 2011 and the chipset were never my favourite to be honest. Intel has a propensity for screwing up the HEDT platforms in a strange kind of "two steps...

HP Z600 Dual Hex Core as Slave

You would see behaviour similar to a Mac Pro 4,1 with this system. The scheduler being inefficient and slow is one issue, VEPro another issue. Latency is probably pretty enormous on this platform but if you can live with it, the efficiency of VEPro in distributing the load might mean high...

Mac Mini i7 vs iMac Pro 10-core for non-VEPro setup?

Thanks to you! One thing to consider is that iMacs hold their value extremely well since they are sought-after machines. Mac Mini i7 vs iMac Pro 10-core for non-VEPro setup?

If we look at it from a comparison perspective, the 7700k iMac with 64 GB of RAM is capable of running a good-sized template in Logic (from personal experience). You have not mentioned your DAW, so worse optimized ones might not work as well (looking at you, Cubase). The Mini is at least as...

Why asrock? Also, why "definitely the z390"? They are functionally identical platforms except the inclusion of native usb 3.1 gen 2 and wifi, but the prices are on average 25% higher. I have no reservations recommending the z370 boards for "9th gen" chips. VRM cooling is completely overrated at...

I am strongly morally opposed to a 5 year old machine being sold for 3000+ Euros and I think Xeons and ECC are useless to us. The drives inside the trashcans are too small and upgrading them is too expensive and they don't have current generation I/O. You can beat the performance and the...
