The place where it must end (long orchestral drama)

I can feel the „unexpected“ reverb as well, mainly with the brass. How much compression did you use there? Sounds somehow squeezed/compressed

    What's the deal with templates?

Just spend the last days digging through all Hollywood Strings and Brass patches, making the ultimate articulation expression maps and adding these to the main template - big time saver from now on, because I now dont have to worry about finding the right patches. Its all ready to go and I can...

    Woodwind Freebies/Demo Samples

Too late I‘m afraid.. wasn‘t the offer to buy sections only until june 30? but you still can buy individual instruments for around 50.- each - VSL woodwinds are really good EDIT: just seen - you still can buy the WW-section for 52.-

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

question about the sample content compared to the original VSL SE: so far everybody is saying the samples are "more or less" similar, just repackaged, put in the new synchron-player with preset EQ (and convolution to place them)? They didnt do any new recordings? I guess if so, they would...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

purchased VSL SE Woodwinds for 52.- yesterday !!! (first VSL purchase for me) .. stellar deal and great sounding instruments with basic articulations (very good legato, staccato and sfz)

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

just listened to this: I purchased already the clarinet (and love it) .. now I instantly had to hit the purchase button to buy that oboe . what a wonderful sound ok, Ennio Morricone helped as well in that decision

Expression Maps and Selecting Current Keyswitch

Setting up expression maps for CSB at the moment - Just found this old thread. Is there any word from steinberg that this might be changed in the future? Why should you not be able to click on an articulation in the inspector? Isnt that the whole point of the inspector, tweaking an instrument?

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

Did you map to CC58 or the keyswitches in your expression map? I was just reading when setting to CC Cubase disables regular MIDI input for these values - meaning I can not control CC58 with my controller anymore I guess?
  12. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

Wow.. that does sound convincing. Ok, I guess thats the way to go. I have the korg nano controller and mapped all the CC58 values to keys. Just didnt expect to use it so heavily. The first chord in your example still sounds too wet for my liking but the phrase in its complete shape sounds...

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

wouldnt it be nice to get control back of the release samples in CSS and CSB ? In CS2 you could deactivate the release samples - in Play engine you can deactivate them or tweak their volume maybe worth asking Alex :)

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

wow .. that sounds like work :P .. but for sure worth it - I do like the sound of CSB - no question

4 horns marcato patch with rep. overlay - mix mics does that sound expected?
  17. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

sorry for my confusion - may I ask again: in the attached mp3 I played a little phrase with 1. Hollywood Brass and 2. CSB .. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong here. CSB (4 horns marcato with overlay) sounds like in a washing machine .. this is unusable! How would I be able to play these...

    A Christmas tune...in summer?

Great themes and structure. Very nice! Could go further with contrasting dynamics in orchestration. Would love to hear more soaring buildup towards the climax. Also the nice rhythmic theme from oboe (and piano at the end) could be added to the rhythmic figure in the horns in the beginning

    Be Kind - orchestral

vi-control was of course right :P . I moved the piano in the background in that region to let the lush strings shine a bit more in the foreground .. works nicely for me Thanks for that feedback - probably wouldn't have done it myself

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

not sure .. also, the venice strings demos sound a tiny bit more metallic/harsh .. in that mentioned ww-demo the strings really sound almost .. perfect
  22. B

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

just listened to their demos .. the woodwinds really sound stunning. Do you know which strings Phil Chapavich Temnitikul was using on "You Could Make Me Smile"? Venice strings? but it sounds smoother .. absolutely stunning as well (especially after 0.58)
  23. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

it is the sound of the room - I'm just surprised that the tail is not controllable by tweaking release - which is unlike HWB in Play-engine. Tweaking the release down to 0 in CSB cuts the sample away of course (when releasing a key) but leaves the room/release-tail untouched .. that sounds...
  24. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

it does sound like a pad .. for melody-lines etc. I agree of course - dont turn off legato .. But then there are these ensemble patches which are so nice for sketching and choral-writing .. but these sounds so washy when played polyphonic
  25. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

Yeah.. thats the weird thing. Changing the release shortens the main sound - but there‘s still something behind (tail, room, release whatever) that is not affected by that. Reverb is off
  26. B

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

started playing around with CSB :) .. quick question: is there anything I can do to lower/quieten the tails a bit? I find them very loud mostly, almost creates a muddy release (only when playing polyphon of course) - .. well, to be fair, I didn't do a producton yet with CSB - you don't find...

well, after purchasing (99.-) the website expects me to go through the purchase process on musicalsampling.com again, applying a code - but there is no field of inputting a code - instead the payment process then takes me to paypal to pay 279.- .. is that expected ???

Hollywood Brass + CB or CSB?

one more question ... Owning only 1 brass library at the moment (HWB Diamond), I am thinking to expand one more. I'm quite happy with HWB but at the same time am really impressed by that baked in JW-sound with CineBrass or the usability with CSB .. (owning CSS as well) After scanning through...

Hi from New Zealand / germany

there are a lot of film-schools where you can dive (and usually start) into visual effects these days. When I started it was entirely based on self teaching .. made my way through freelancing in germany mostly for commercials and at some point took on first contracts for bigger companies, first...

Hi from New Zealand / germany

100 posts already and I didn't introduce myself. :) Hello, I'm born and raised in germany. I improved and played on piano since I was a little kid, played in various bands (rock, pop, top40) and later clarinet in the high-school orchestra. Father conducted symphony orchestra, mother conducted...

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

.. just asked Alex about that dicsount code for CS2 .. couldnt help it. fun fact: just saw that talking about Hollywood Strings here only senior members contribute .. I guess loving HWS comes with age?
  39. B

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

listened to Daniels overview of CS2 from 2012 .. damn - wanna have :P .. it does sound different from CSS and HWS, so nice .. and good vibrato-control is what I'm missing with CSS
  40. B

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

Yes, I blended CSS with LS chamber strings. That worked pretty well.. havent tried HWS together with CSS yet
  41. B

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

Well maybe not wet but for sure big. HWS can have that airy quality as well - with adding the right reverb getting pretty lush .. (like most of Bergersens demos)
  42. B

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

I need more string-libraries .. otherwise I will refuse to compose any more music :P ...kidding well, that was my thinking as well .. although CS2 does sound very nice
  43. B

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

quick question: I use CSS and Hollywood Strings as my main string libraries. Now with Alex' discount I could get CS2 fairly cheap .. and I hear people are still using it here and there because of its lush sound? .. but I have the feeling it would sound very similar to HWS? meaning big and wet...

    Composition/Mix advice?

nice one .. style and especially drums instantly pulls me towards pink floyd .. guess if you copy some of nick masons fills (from one of pink floyds softer pieces) to your piece the drums would sound more alife

Yeah, wanted to check in at redbanned as well. Thanks for that. Seems like I‘m not the only one coming from weta :) . Well, it‘s a big company. The bigger a company gets the more routine is naturally involved. On the other hand, I do remember producing EDM-music there also was a lot of routines...

In a World of Jousting Knights...

I like the composition and the idea of how you‘re mixing the staccatos with long melody lines. Because of that I would have an eye on the timing. It sounds as if the longs are sometimes a bit late. But nice string sounds. Which library?
