Spitfire Audio - Hauschka Composer Toolkit ...

I'm all for the artist signature/ toolkit thing. I'm just not sure I want Spitfire doing it. Especially if they ever DID make a John Williams one. I have the Bernard Herrman one. It's ok. It's good if you cater to the library, but doesn't provide the type of flexibility I thought it would.

Huge MIDI Input delay when adding plug-in in Logic

Haha, fair enough. I didn't think to look it up because I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for. Incidentally in looking for a solution I had stumbled upon the Low Latency button, but then it made my reverb bus's orange which required me to add low latency protection to my sends on each...

Huge MIDI Input delay when adding plug-in in Logic

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I just didn't make the connection because my other previous mastering plugin (Izotope something or other) didn't create that delay. Thank you.

Huge MIDI Input delay when adding plug-in in Logic

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me. I recently purchased the WAVES Abbey Road TG Mastering plug in, which sounds great (especially for $29), but when I add it to the Stereo Out in Logic, I get a massive delay when trying to record MIDI data via my keyboard. Now I know, I...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

Exactly. Personally, I think I'm going to wait. I'm a bit put off by the lack of key switching. I'm sure it's a great product, but it's something that's important to me, so my search continues...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

I know that this post wasn't intended for me, but that is a really good point I had not considered. Crap, what to do, and the clock is ticking on Exp B. Also was considering 8DIO's Intimate Woodwinds which sound more than decent. My issue with Exp B is that it seems like they're a one trick...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

I felt that a bit too. The opening of Rite of Spring sounded more like a harmonica to me than a bassoon. I didn't continue after that. I wish we had more of an indication when CSW was coming out. It's hard to hold out for an undetermined amount of time.

I listened to the demos. I don't think it's for me.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

What kind of music are you looking to make? If it's more 'epic' music, then it can be done with this package, but it's certainly not it's forte. I'd say it's strength is for more 'conventional' orchestral music.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Thank you for this! Yeah, I think I just prefer to use VSS since I'm combining it with other libraries.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Aha, ok. Thank you. I don't want to eliminate everything of course, otherwise that would defeat the point of the library. Maybe just bring it under control a bit. :) Thanks!

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

So I downloaded Synchron yesterday, and had the opportunity to try it out this morning. And so far, while I like the new GUI, and ease of use, I find that the new sounds sound extremely far away, even after disabling the reverb. It's like the old version was too dry and upfront, and the new...

Trying to lead a melody with CSS and EV/EC solo strings

Without being familiar with EC or EV, I would say it's probably best to have them as separate parts, unless just by chance, the two programs happen to compliment each other. Normally I use CSSS if I'm looking for it to blend perfectly with CSS. Otherwise timbre, and vibrato, etc will be off.

Haha, thanks! that was thoughtful of you. No, I had a feeling that it might be part of it, so I'm waiting to see.

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

The trumpet sounds respectable for once. Sorry i never sent you the clip. I figured at that price, I'm just going to throw "caution to the wind" and buy it.

    Logic Pro 10.4.5 Update

Thank you. I had a feeling that that was the case as I never saw the plugins reload when I "unfroze" a frozen track, Seems to me that freeing up the RAM would've been a essential part of the freezing process, but oh well. Better late than never.

    Logic Pro 10.4.5 Update

Wow, what an undertaking. Good on you for doing it! The only thing I'm not really feeling is that opening high bassoon.

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

Either way, I'll likely get CSW when it comes out. In the mean time, there is music to be made, and I'm not sure I can hold out for the end of the year at the earliest. I'm submitting a project this Saturday and am expecting a significant amount of cash from it, and I always like to invest some...

    Help with mixing orchestral cymbals

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. Another thing that crossed my mind while I was reading over your comments is that sometimes as well I blame the wrong issue. If the rest of my mix is solid, and the orchestration is done right, there really should be minimal amounts of...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

I actually have Spitfire Studio woodwinds, I forgot to mention it because while it's decent for shorts and effects, I personally don't think it's very useable for lead lines. But I will definitely look into Fluffy Audio Woodwinds!

    Help with mixing orchestral cymbals

Does anyone else have this issue? I feel like I can just never get orchestral cymbal crashes to sit right. They're either too loud, too soft, too brittle, too dull. To upfront, or too far away. And not to blame the equipment because I know it's mainly my issue, but it seems that I can't find a...

Haha, no I was referring to VSL SE's winds. Sorry for the confusion.

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

Maybe "smooth" isn't the right word. Perhaps unrealistic is better. And not to an incredible degree. I still use them (except for the oboe which I find very harsh), but I'm shopping for the next step up.
  27. mikefrommontreal

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

For sure. Unfortunately there's not a lot of decent demos out there on them, but I was "sold" after watching Chris Siu's recent YouTube demos. Just making sure. ;)

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

Did they fix the legato transitions by any chance? I find them decent for the bassoon/contrabassoon. But too "clicky" for the higher range winds.
  29. mikefrommontreal

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

The legato transitions. They're not smooth imo. I would love to wait for CSW, but a) who knows when that will be release and B) there's no guarantee that it will be appropriate. I trust the cinematic stuff, but not everything works in every situation. For example, the solo trumpet in CSB to my...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

Before I pull the plug on Berlin Woodwinds Exp B, is there anything else I should be considering for expressive solo woodwinds? It will primarily be used for quiet orchestral passages (non 'epic') so it needs to sit well among my other programs (mostly CSS and CSB). I'm currently using VSL...

Daniel james live on twitch now with an important topic!

I agree. And critical listening is key. It's also where - in my opinion - the talent lies. In the ability to listen, and discern. However the execution of one's own ideas requires a certain level of competency and education in order to effectively, and efficiently create your own music.

Daniel james live on twitch now with an important topic!

I don't know about "better" necessarily. I think a good pop song or three chord rocker can be as good as anything else. But it's not what inspires me creatively for my own music.

Can you get by with just knowing the basics? Yes Can you make great music with just knowing the basics? Also yes. But how far is that going to take you? Unless you're an exceptional visionary with a unique sound, my guess is you'll be in 'epic' music hell for the rest of your life.

I buy more than I use, and I forget those I buy

There's other things I'd rather spend my money on than sample libraries (like guitars for example) so I really try to do my research before buying something, and then really use it to the fullest. I feel like people go crazy on sample libraries as a crutch. I was like that with guitar pedals for...

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Does anyone know when the promo prices end? If it's been said or is on their website, I must've missed it. Also, to be honest, if I do get it. It's for the piano. I read their blurb, but am overall still confused as to what the difference is, sound wise. They added reverb?

    Big Spitfire Purchase Feedback

Exactly. With the exception of their chamber strings (which I still crave) for pretty much everything else there is a viable alternative (such as CSS) that I would pick over it. Not to start a Spitfire bashing thread, as their products are ok, just that it's important to consider all of your...

    Big Spitfire Purchase Feedback

I guess my question would be, what's with all the Spitfire? They certainly do not have a monopoly on quality, or value. There are libraries from other companies that I would personally go to first in some cases. Not to say that they don't offer great options as well, but when I see a list of...

So what should I put on my SSD?

I have an i5 imac 2017. I'm not sure of the specs at this moment beyond that as I'm away from my computer at the moment. I was under the impression that you couldn't add an internal SSD to these units, no?

Not so familiar with computer peripheral stuff, so please excuse my newbie level terminology. I'm a Logic user running out of space between my mac hard drive and my external WD (non SSD) drive. I figure now is as good a time as any to by an external SSD drive. But the size I get will be...

New string library: opinions what to get?

When you say layer, what are you referring to? As in, what are you trying to accomplish through layering? I have CSS and CSSS. When orchestrated properly, it provides enough flexibility to accomplish pretty much anything. The only thing I lack (and this might be the same for you to), is more...
