Musical Sampling / Best Service serial code problem

Ah ha! Thanks artmuz (and to you also Daniel). The link in the pdf I assumed was to the regular Connect download app. Instead it goes to an all-new (to me) registration page. I put that code in, that generates a THIRD code, which then would appear to work in Connect. Not so much a download...

Musical Sampling / Best Service serial code problem

Thanks Manuel, that was well worth a shot but Musical Sampling doesn't recognise it as a valid code either.

Musical Sampling / Best Service serial code problem

I bought Soaring Strings yesterday in the current sale. Although I bought from JRR Shop, registration happens through Best Service. I registered the product fine at Best Service using the registration code I got from JRR Shop, and I have a serial number in my download links section on the Best...

    You desert island soft synths?

Omni 2, anything else would be a bonus (is it cheating to have Trilian and Keyscape in there too?). In order then: Repro 1/5, VPS Avenger, Nexus 2.

Plugin for protecting my precious ears...

I found a good level on SigMod easily enough that only very rarely triggers in real life - very occasionally when patch-surfing Omni it goes, but I’m pretty glad there actually - but always on a true very loud event. Think it was +8 in my case. And it’s dead easy to reset, I have the settings so...

Plugin for protecting my precious ears...

JEPA has it - Sigmod is the best tool for this. And I do sympathise MrLinissi - I've had that apocalyptic smash on enabling a VE Pro track sometimes. Sigmod has restored my shattered nerves, works seamlessly.

Bohemian Series Expansions Thread, Violin Expansion 2 Improv Video

I don't agree with the asessment that the vibrato is "over the top" in a general sense. I've always understood this violin to be featured front and centre for passionate playing - that's what you're buying. It's not designed as a restrained player, or a first chair. You do get the different...

VEPro RAM usage dropping over time. But why?

Hi Cornelis - this is something to do with how Windows manages RAM. I can’t pretend I understand it, but I researched it a lot last year when I discovered the same thing. After a period of time - say about 20 mins - the RAM use begins to drop just as you’ve discovered. It’s a bit like...

    Not renewing Pro Tools "subscription"

Avid have finally spoken and the good news is that reinstatements remain for both Ultimate and Vanilla, currently at the same prices. That means for Vanilla, its actually less of a penalty now to wait a year than it was. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=405253 [post edited as I originally...

    Not renewing Pro Tools "subscription"

Just to reiterate for those affected - Avid have yet to confirm what reinstatement options there are after July 1st, with the distinct possibility that there will be no option to reinstate to a permanent license after that point. This is in 4 days time. Customer service have apparently told...

    Chernobyl ?? - Pianos ??

Hmm yes, I think when you look at the slightly stark marketing from Audioplugin deals, I can see why some have reacted so negatively, especially with the timing hot off the heels of the phenomenal success of the Chernobyl TV series which smacks of opportunism. But its not really an entirely...

    Not renewing Pro Tools "subscription"

On the re-instatement option, it might be about to get worse. Avid have yet to confirm that the reinstatements will work at all after July 1st, most unclear on regular Pro Tools in particular. Once lapsed, it could never be re-activated to get an up to date version.

Buy more ram or upgrade to SSD's?

Yup - I'd say SSDs, even perhaps just the one 2TB for your most used stuff, and then explore working with a disabled template either in your DAW or VE Pro. I have 64gb but rarely get near the 32gb limit to be honest. For me the days of massive RAM requirements have been and gone.

Is it a good investment to have Keyscape alongside Omnisphere

FWIW - it's a great keyboard library, but there are other great keyboard libraries. The thing that really sets it apart imo is being integrated into Omni. I got much more excited when a few months after release they added the Keyscape Creative library, 1,200 presets or something I think it...

    Tim Cook; thoughtful speech

For me the main charges against Apple - wild profiteering, slave labour, tax avoidance - are pretty serious and there’s cases to answer. But the direct competition are all involved in the dismantling of western democracy, and on that Apple pretty much has a clean bill of health. That may sound...

    Tim Cook; thoughtful speech

There's plenty I dislike - strongly - about Apple. But I cannot imagine the bosses of Google, Twitter, Facebook or Amazon writing a speech like that. Thanks for the post, John.

Where Should I Go To Get These 80s Sounds?

A quick google suggests the main synths on that record were the TB 303 and JX3P. Add in the TR808 in the track (though definitely not the snare), you could trial Roland Cloud for a month and go straight to the virtual sources. The 303 bass I think lots of VIs could pull off, mind. That nice...

New from Output, Steven Slate, Sonuscore's The Orchestra, and IK Multimedia

New from Output, Steven Slate, Sonuscore's The Orchestra, and IK Multimedia

I asked someone once who did a lot of work dubbing adverts what working with the clients was like. He gave a heavy sigh. "They all think they are brilliant mavericks. They are all exactly the same".

    Sessions Strings Pro 2

Just got this in K12U and very pleasantly surprised. Don’t even think about it for orchestral use, this is for pop and especially disco. Disco! It has articulations that no orchestral library has, there’s a big clue - fast and slow slides and scoops. The legato and portamento works seamlessly...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

I'm going through the podcast now - highly recommended. About 50 mins per ep, there's no flab - quite a lot of detail on their production methods, and the writing process. Most importantly, given the show's theme of the importance of truth, writer Craig Mazin is very keen to point out where...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

I knew I should have steered clear of tangents, so final small font comment from me on this new derailment. Fukushima's disaster only happened because of a tsunami. As far as anyone knows, it is a safe system outside that specific extreme circumstance. No German reactors are at threat from a...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

Rope - absolutely my last comment as personal back and forths are very dull, but I'd have cut you a lot more slack on nuance and multiple things being true had you not dismissed the entire thing initially with the Tap gag. Putting this very bluntly, given her achievement in what is currently...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

I'm glad to hear it, Rope. But your manner on the thread so far gave little indication of this, indeed suggesting that just because it was a major historical event that gave it superiority as drama, as if the craft were superfluous. And I do think you did Hildur a serious mis-service with your...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

Have some more rope, Rope! You could very easily make an entirely superfluous and rote mini series on Chernobyl. Regardless of what a major historical event it was, good drama is very much not guaranteed (did anyone see Pearl Harbor?). If you can't appreciate the writing, acting, production...

    Chernobyl composer Hildur Guðnadóttir interview

I think your user name comes into play here... Chernobyl is now the best rated TV series of all time. That’s one thing, what is more surprising is that this is despite being extremely challenging material that is often very difficult to watch. This wasn’t an easy sell, nor a crowd-pleasing...

Lovely stuff! Would love, in time, a variation on Poly Legato that would be true to a single instrument, especially playing an open lower string with a fingered higher one and tracking all the bowing of course.

    Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass (MSB)

Actually I don’t even find controller use especially taxing. I have attacks mapped to key velocity, so there’s a natural variation as I play soft / loud, and I’ve also put an auto-control for cc11 onto cc1 to cut down on fader use (cc11 I have working in the range of 50-100%). I’m not saying...

Omnisphere and Other Extensive Libraries - So many patches - What’s your process?

I never use ratings. I don't even really get the idea behind them. If going through patches cold, of course I like some more than others. But it's almost a meaningless exercise... there's no context. On a project I might be searching for absolutely anything - there are times when annoying...

What's your DAW and OS? If it's not Reaper and is Windows, I'd say definitely jump straight to 7. I think a lot of Mac users are happy, but from what I can tell there's more problems at the moment on Mac still. I think the VSL folks are still working on Reaper issues.

    VEPro 7 now available!

Good comment on how the value of 7 will depend on exactly how you work. For me, even the parameter naming / mapping isn’t that big a deal, but the improvements to the automation Window (which only appeared post-launch) are worth it for admission alone, they speed up template making by an order...

TBH if hollywilly is mid-project, I'd forget it until there's a clear time. Troubleshooting when under the kosh is hellish - VEP 7 is great, but on existing project there's little benefit to upgrading (especially if you have performance issues), and it'll be a time-sink.

8dio Liberis on sale - anyone use it?

I don't, but I probably would have bought it if I didn't have Liberis as it looks and sounds sensational. I just don't use children's choirs enough to justify a 2nd one though really.

Cubase 10 Version Question, Specifically for Orchestral Composing

Here is what Daniel at Steinberg wrote in September: We are working on a replacement for the current eLicenser system, but it's a medium- to long-term project rather than something that is going to bear fruit imminently, I'm afraid. eLicenser has been such a critical part of our business for so...

Purged Template Uses a Lot of RAM

The difference in RAM use is fairly trivial there tbh, that's small beer next to the huge amount of RAM the big .nkis take. Load time is more significant though. To balance that, one advantage of less instruments in RAM comes into play if you are using a disabled template. If you have less...

Purged Template Uses a Lot of RAM

It is indeed normal. It's still not that well understood that an awful lot of memory is taken up by the instruments themselves, not only the samples. 400-500mb per instance for some of the big beast nkis is not uncommon. Purged is still a useful tool for sure - and its a wonder how seamlessly...

Cubase 10 Version Question, Specifically for Orchestral Composing

I must admit, I've barely touched Cubasis. It's very clever for an iPad app and it has improved a great deal, but still I found it about 1,000x more frustrating than Elements on a laptop. I think you'll find Elements a big sigh of relief next to it.

Cubase 10 Version Question, Specifically for Orchestral Composing

Ha, irony cross-thread alert for me on your last comment, but thanks Wolfie. I don't think Steinberg have ever allowed soft-elicenses on Artist or Pro. However, they have publicly said that they are working on a new copy protection system that - IIRC will be dongle-free, so here's hoping.

FWIW - and apologies for dragging my own situation into someone else's thread - to the best of my knowledge, I've never asked for a free copy of anything, either privately or publicly. And I've turned down quite a few, usually for time or interest's sake - if I think I won't like something or...
