Is it a good investment to have Keyscape alongside Omnisphere

If you’re a keyboardist, i'm not gonna go as far as saying it's a "must have". I prefer to use the word "playground" :)

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Thought about buying this just for the piano but my vsl discount (while significant) is not as much as many other cases here hence I don’t own any special editions but rather have individual instruments. Story short: - Synchron SE 1 will round up around $200 - VSL D-274 standard library (not...

Omnisphere and Other Extensive Libraries - So many patches - What’s your process?

Exploring Omnisphere can be overwhelming if you don't know in advance what you're looking for. Start with a category (playable textures etc...) and stick with the first sound that serves your project and don't worry about "missing out" on other sounds that could fit the track better because...

    Reverb for piano?

Just put the "Blackhole" preset as an insert on the track. Set the Mix knob to 15 and adjust the Size knob to taste (i set it to 15 as well). That's it. Smooth lush tail without being intrusive.

    Reverb for piano?

Reviving this thread to say how good Blackhole is with pianos. I'm surprised how transparent it leaves the original source without coloring it or muddying it out, while providing sumptuous flourishing tails. This is the type of reverb that i seek for pianos. For some reason, i've never been a...

Ivory Piano vs Pianoteq - Steinway D

Without adding to the fire of the usually heated pianoteq vs sampled debate, i suggest: - Download the demo of Pianoteq and see if you like the sound. - Test Ivory here: https://account.bestservice.com/try-sound/session_booking.html

Garritan CFX vs. Noire. Does anyone have both?

Thank you:) I think you'll be happy with NOIRE. The amount of customization you can do is insane. They went all out with this one. They're also planning to release an update with more snapshots.

Garritan CFX vs. Noire. Does anyone have both?

I have Garritan CFX, VSL CFX and NOIRE. The best for recording for me are NOIRE and VSL CFX. - Garritan CFX: Great for playing/practicing, but a pain when recording due to the pedal-down noises in the samples, especially if you finalize it with a limiter in order to give it presence in a solo...

    Garritan CFX dynamic range!

Do what you have to do, that's why the option is there. I know some players who like to raise the dynamic range above 50% on that piano. Start with 65% and see how that goes.
  20. keepitsimple

    Garritan CFX dynamic range!

The knob reference can be confusing so I don’t blame you. Basically: - Knob at 50% = 100% natural dynamic range as recorded. - Knob at 100%= 200% dynamic range - Knob at 3 O’clock= 150 % dynamic range https://usermanuals.garritan.com/CFXLite/Content/dynamic_range.htm
  21. keepitsimple

    Garritan CFX dynamic range!

Because 50% is the natural dynamic range of the piano when they sampled it.

Which synchron piano has more timbre range between low/high velocities?

It should sound “good” (subjective of course) anywhere. It needs external reverb that’s why it’s dry. I don’t like to use the included reverb. Will try your preset and give you feedback:)

Which synchron piano has more timbre range between low/high velocities?

Go to the VSL forum, there's a sticky thread that was recently made by Paul where everyone shares presets for both the CFX and Steinway. I shared 3 of my presets there and there are couple more presets by other people as well. Download them and try, see if you like them.

    Reverb for piano?

Too many good choices those days, you can't go wrong with whatever option you choose. - Spaces II is fantastic for what you ask (putting piano inside a concert hall). - Pro-R is a stellar algorithmic reverb. It's the only reverb i've been using for a while now. I use it for everything not just...

NOIRE vs Ravenscroft vs Keyscape. I did not use the same midi file, instead, i wanted to improvise on each one separately and let it guide me as i play. - NOIRE default preset: 0:00 - Ravenscroft: 4:16 - Keyscape: 8:31 - NOIRE custom preset: 12:23

They're all amazing. But for some reason, the Ravenscroft tickles the agony within when i play it, and that's exactly what i want. 3 of them are deeply sampled and have impeccable response and dynamics, at the end of the day, i have to go with what inspires me.....

NOIRE is much better for cinematic than Ravenscroft (in my opinion). But at the end of the day, if you really feel that sooner or later you want to get the Ravenscroft and can't resist the G.A.S urge, then it's better to get it while on sale, instead of waiting for another sale on black friday.

Never tried the hammersmith sorry. I have VSL CFX, Ivory ACD, Garritan CFX and Korg Kronos (which has VERY good pianos) and the Ravenscroft is the only one i call when i want to compose. What music are you playing?

YES very relevant. It's still hard for me to find a piano that inspires me more than the Ravenscroft. And the velocity scripting done in it is still one of the best in my opinion, it feels and reacts like a real grand. The new Noire is tickling my loyalties right now but i would never get rid...

NI / Galaxy Instruments / Nils Frahm -- NOIRE

There seems to be a bug in the release samples. Try to play an ff staccato chord around the C4 range while holding the sustain pedal briefly: You will hear a honky bass-y noise right after you release the pedal. Turn off release samples and it won't happen. I reported it to their representative...
