Ryzen 3000 Vs I9 9900K for music production

You should always wait for a better and newer CPU unless you are currently in need of a new one. So if your current CPU still is good enought, save the money.

    Looking for 'playable' orchestra

If you have SE 1+2 go for the upgrade to the synchronized versions. It cost you almost nothing, you get an orchestra ready to use with reverb and panning + a great piano. And if you don't like the library you have 30 days to return it and get your money back...

Ryzen 3000 Vs I9 9900K for music production

Has someone already measured the CPU latency of the Ryzen 3 CPUs? From the power-consumption, price and IPC standpoint Ryzen 3 seems to be on top of Intel.

    What's the deal with templates?

I plan to take my template to the next level after my vaccation. I want to integrate most of the libraries I got since I have created it + take advantage of the VEP7 automation and fx. I think about sharing it on github as soon as it is ready. Do you think that someone will be interested...

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

yes, and you can route them to different audio outputs. But then you cant use multiple midi channels to control them separat. All VSL player share the samples in memory, so there is no disadvantage in using multiple instances. There are no Synchron baked samples. The synchronized versions are...

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

That is the reason why there is the Synchron Player: no endless routing and setup needed. Even if you want to use SE 5 without Synchron IR, get the Synchronized version, load the instrument, disable the IR and save as preset.

Need some help with brass programming

Depends on the library you are using. with vsl you would switch to short detache or perf repetition and then back. But sometimes legato just does the job.

How necessary are VSL Full/Extended instruments if you have SE versions?

If you are happy with the results you get, save your money and get some additional instruments (some solo instruments you miss, or for example SE 5).
  14. Ben

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

I can fully recommend the synchronized version. Having different IRs for every player is CPU demanding, but not more then using MIR Pro or multiple IRs from a different reverb plugin. I use it on Windows and it works great. @jaketanner Compare the articulation list of Dim. strings 1+2 and SE 5...

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

Exact. It works perfect except if you try to use them as solo instruments.
  16. Ben

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

Dimension Strings are recorded with one mono mic per instrument. There are no additional microphones. Normally SE instruments have only 2 velocity layers, but SE 5 has 4. The package has a size of 51 GB on disk!

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

Someone asked this on the VSL forum and Paul confirmed that all 4 layers from the big library are in the SE version.

VSL SE Vol 5: Dimension Strings 1+2

VSL released SE Vol 5, which contains samples from Dimension Strings 1 and 2 (make sure you have 51 GB space). It is available as VI and synchronized version. https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Synchronized_Special_Edition_Bundle/Synchronized_Special_Edition_Vol5 Price 345€, intro price is 255€...

No, I used the default preset (classic sound) and added TrueVerb with only a little bit of late reflections on the master bus. After some feedback I have fine-tuned this piece a little more, so this is the updated version. To compare the different reverb-settings of the presets, I'll attach the...

Some instruments got more articulations (for example trumpet Bb) I think you will. as mentioned, additional articulations and instruments, and the eq and IR make it sound different, but in a good way.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Of course, SE has its limits. After all, it is an entry level orchestra. So there will be situations where you will miss some articulations (for example non-vibrato, harmonics, dynamics), but if you know what this library can and can't do, you can go around a lot of these limitations. You will...

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Not what I've experienced. There are some sample manufacturers that sell you the same samples over and over again every ~3 years in a new package. Not so VSL: You have the SE versions which are entry level products. You can upgrade these to the single instruments, which can be upgraded to the...

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

How? It is true that you can get lost by the high count of all the different products that VSL has. But if they sell a product based on another product (upgrade) or the product is in a collection, you will get always an upgrade price.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Imo there is no reason to get anything from the old SE, except when you need to complete something to get the upgrade price to the syn. SE. The Synchronized SE does not only come with more articulations but also more instruments as well as the new player which includes multiple presets per...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

@mikefrommontreal I've created a mock-up with the Synchronized SE collection and posted it here: https://vi-control.net/community/threads/synchron-ized-special-edition.82751/page-5#post-4402028 From ~1:15 you can hear the woodwinds. (I used a breath controller for this)

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

Thank you :) I mixed Orchestral Strings (+1dB) with Appassionata (-2 dB) and Solo Strings (-5 dB). I used the same velocity crossfade curves, but altered the expression curves to avoid static soundling long notes and to match the sections better together.

    Synchron-ized Special Edition

I finally had some time to take a deeper look into the Synchronized Special Editions (all volumes). I've created a mock-up of "The Godfather" soundtrack (I've used [youtube] as template, but I did not create an exact copy). I used some plugins on the master bus (exciter, compressor, some...

Not true with the Synchronized libraries as they come with some reverb engines build-in. I would go for the Synchronized SE version.

    [Thread] AMD/Intel CPU 2019

IPC is one of the most important factors for our use-case, but as @EvilDragon mentioned, the core-cache synchronization is important too. If this is not fast enought, you will not be able to saturate the CPU load. That's one of the reasons why the current Threadripper CPUs are not an optimal...

    Solo woodwinds for orchestral music?

For best performance, yes. But the Synchronized instruments should work just fine if you increase the sample preload size. For the Synchron Piano and the Synchron Percussion you should use a SSD to avoid drop-outs and eternal loading times :)
