    Windows 10’s May 2019 Update

I updated my non-studio machine to 1903. Promptly disconnected the studio machine from the Internet - I’ve had no end of USB related issues with 1903 from drivers needing re-installing to a 2.0 hub becoming completely unusable & needing replacing (yes, seriously). These Microsoft updates are...

IK Multimedia Introduces MODO DRUM - Modeled Drums

@kessel This. I can understand FXP wanting to do something different than all the other drum GUI’s out there with BFD3 but they completely dropped the ball. There’s a reason all the other drum GUI’s look like they do. Imagine a guitar or bass VSTi that looks like a line drawing or a blueprint...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

If it works for you that's great - it doesn't work for me. I like to have my fundamental mixing controls readily available, not having to scroll through or click drop downs to get to them (how many analogue desks do you know where you have to open a drawer or reach under the table to get to...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

Numbers on a page at the end of the day - find me one client that has complained about fader noise or micro delays in automation! :) I just really wish Steinberg would take a look at the mixer. Even the colour scheme is off-putting. I really am trying to use the in-built strip more but as...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

Without de-railing the thread - Avid derailed Pro Tools as soon as they introduced their extortion plan of ‘support’ subscriptions for permanent licenses - that’s where I got off the Avid train. Their latest move is even more insulting especially with how they sold the original subscription plan...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

I was using 3rd party plugins for years before I even looked at Cubase/Nuendo. I switched from analogue workflow with Pro Tools 5 so I already had my workflow entrenched in 3rd party pluginswhich is why, as well as the Cubase mixer looking terrible, I never even looked at the in-built strip...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

@greggybud Yeah, the whole look of the Steinberg mix consoles is shocking. They look horrible. Really horrible. Especially if you come from an analogue background and are used to physical mixing desk operation. The only thing Pro Tools still has going for it IMO is that it’s mix window is by...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

Well since the re-vamp of the channel strip I am trying to use it more. As I mentioned in the thread about saturation I haven’t tried that yet but I am using the Pre section rather than using my 3rd party EQ for the filters.
  9. ChazC

    Do You Use Analog Saturation?

I use NLS on most of my tracks and busses every project. I generally use the SSL (Spike) but for aggressive tracks such as guitars and heavy synths the EMI (Mike) adds a nice grit when you dial it up past 6-7. I actually bought NLS as soon at it was released (before Waves started all these rock...

    Cubase 10.30 Update

The Nuendo point update with ARA support is out as well. Apparently in both Cubase and Nuendo there’s major issues with 64 bit processing, using 32 bit works. There’s problems with tracks which have multiple lanes after using ARA on them - in fact if you look at the forums it appears there’s...

IK Multimedia Introduces MODO DRUM - Modeled Drums

Well, BFD is very long in the tooth now (as well as having probably the worst GUI of any VSTi I’ve ever used), Slate SSD5 was hardly ground breaking and Toontrack are too busy putting their MIDI packs on sale instead of offering any kind of deal on SD3. Add into that anyone who has MODO Bass...

    Living in 2011 (Win 7/Cubase 7/Kontakt 5). Any tips before the upgrades Win 10/Cubase 10/Kontakt 6?

Certainly don’t just do a win7 upgrade to 10. Get a new SSD and do a fresh install of Win 10. Yes, it’s a complete pain re-installing everything but it does mean you’re starting off on a completely fresh system which will minimise any potential problems. I don’t envy you one little bit tbh but...

Heavyocity Mosaic Keys and Voices - Your Thoughts?

I like the sound of both of them tbh. Do I need them right now? No. So, for once (and despite them being Heavyocity) I’ve resisted my GAS and will wait for them on sale. Be nice to hear some compositions using them though if anyone wants to post some examples?

Templates aren't OS specific as far as I'm aware. Only problem you'd have is if the template contained plugins or libraries that were OS specific; even then the template would load but the offending plugin/lib just wouldn't load. {edit to add} They are DAW specific however - a Logic template...

Nope - says they can be used with Maliki or 'your favourite percussion library'. TBH it'd be pretty redundant having MIDI files provided just to control loops. From the manual: "Furthermore, Maliki comes with a collection of over 600 MIDI files and the single drum instruments to let you write...

Best Kontakt library for 80's synthwave sounds?

Personally I have hundreds of raw wav samples of drum machines (and there are loads freely available) and if we’re being honest, any synthwave track would use heavily processed sounds in any case so unless the wavs would be provided already processed then not necessary IMO if it means a cheaper...

Best Kontakt library for 80's synthwave sounds?

I'd say yes to SWDrums for sure (esp. at $9.99) if you don't have any synthwave drums currently. Ueberschall 80's is at it's most basic 10 construction kits so it's good for inspiration but you get more loops than one shots - I got it on sale, if I'd paid full price I'd have been a bit...

Best Kontakt library for 80's synthwave sounds?

The drums in Power Move are fine for layering but IMO not strong enough for main drum tracks. If you head over to JRR Shop you can pick up Beatskillz Synthwave Drums for $9.99 at the moment.

    Pro Tools to Cubase..

How long have you got?! :) I’ll give you the major one straight off the bat - expression maps (worth it for this alone IMO). Another - MIDI plugins. How about the logical editor? Once you get your head around it (no simple task it has to be said though) it’s absolutely insane what you can do...

    Pro Tools to Cubase..

I went from PTHD11 to PT vanilla to Cubase (& eventually to Nuendo). I simply had enough of Avid’s attitude, there was nothing wrong with Pro Tools per se and I still say it has the best GUI of any DAW out there. However, if you’re working with MIDI or VI’s, Cubase is night and day compared to...

Firewire 400 vs USB2 for VST work

I switched from FireWire to USB a few years ago. I was sceptical but was assured by the guys at RME that a USB2 interface on its own dedicated bus is faster than a FireWire 400 interface and running their UFX that way is the preferred method. You must ensure that it’s on its own bus though (use...

EastWest updates Installation Center and Play

Thanks for the feedback. How are the sustains? One thing that struck me about the trailer was the lack of many held notes (there was only one of any real length and it sounded like a pre-recorded phrase).

EastWest updates Installation Center and Play

Not yet, there’s a walkthrough coming this week so going to wait for that. It looks good from the trailer (although the sustains may be a concern) and the intro price (-50%) is only 10% more than the usual EW -60% it’ll eventually be available for, so yeah looks promising.

EastWest updates Installation Center and Play

IIRC it was $50 when they first released it. I got burned with the SSL FX, paid $50 then they gave it away a few months later. I never jumped on Play 6 for that very reason. The irony of that is I’ve been waiting for Voices of the Opera though so I’d have got Play 6 for free anyway! Typical!

Steinberg NUENDO sale up to 70% off

I’ve used one of the construction packs once on a paying job - other than that I’ve never touched them tbh. I’m not a fan of using loops. There are some Halion & Groove Agent sounds included though but I’ve never touched them (or even Halion/Groove Agent) either! Nuendo comes with some post...

Easiest way to migrate from Cubase to Nuendo

@peksi Use the User Profiles option. Save your user profile in Cubase (you didn’t say which version of Cubase you had so you may not have it) then just select that as your User Profile in Nuendo. Job done. If you don’t have User Profiles (introduced in C8/9 IIRC) I *think* you can copy some of...

Steinberg NUENDO sale up to 70% off

N10 won’t drop til Q2 so I would think the sale will last a while yet (maybe end of March?). I used to use PT since v5 but switched to Cubendo when Avid introduced their new extortion (sorry, pricing...) plan. Hopefully with N10 I won’t have to keep updating Cubase as well as Nuendo! Only...
