    Qwerty keyboard recommendations for W7/W10?

All good on W10. I actually switch it between 2 PCs using a USB switch and that works very well too. I have different macros on them too. The only thing that doesn't work is getting to bios when using that keyboard via switch. Direct works fine. I guess it could be true for any keyboard. - Piotr

    Qwerty keyboard recommendations for W7/W10?

I use Steelseries APEX 350. It's a bit big, but comfortable. The macro keys along with the Steelseries software are super useful. - Piotr

Does Cubase 10 Export to Video?

    Time Tracker

Hey everyone. A friend of mine recently worked on a little tool plugin for those, that want to track time spent on your projects. Either for those, who do mixing or others that work on per hour basis, I think this could be useful. It's VST3 and it's free. It has a couple of great features, like...

    Another notation question - tympani

John, I'd say less is more. So simple "l.v." or an untied slur for the final note would work well in your case. And in case of changing mallets, 1 second to do so is not enough. Unless your player has two sided mallets. Which is not default, yet, I think. - Piotr

    CS2 <> Hollywood Strings

I don't have either of CSS but I also default legato stuff to HS Diamond. The sound is very flexible and I found that it works in 99% situations. The speed control (with velocity) of the transitions is very useful. And I enjoy using the "fake" con sordino. It actually sounds great. And the...

Looking at some unboxing videos, this one also reportedly has "slightly higher resolution LCDs", which is very good news, considering how blurry can text be on the original. But that would need verifying. Looking forward to switching to it as soon as it's available in the EU. - Piotr

    Sonokinetic Releases Indie

The easiest one is retriggering the phrase or changing the chord (would need bar sync and phrase follow turned off). Then, for some phrases, that for example are a sustained notes arc, that goes cresc-dim every bar, you can also change Kontakt tempo. If your tempo is 120bpm, setting tempo in...

Actually, if you listen to my demo (the score for the cinematic promo video), it's mostly in 3/4. Many phrases in most of our recent libraries are made the way that they work in both 4/4 and 3/4. Different time signatures too, with a bit of more work or a trick or two. - Piotr

Kontakt : Separate Instances or Multis

Separate instances take extra RAM. It's not the same amount as the very first instance, but still if you have a lot of Kontakt tracks, it adds up. I live with it, cause I work with instrument tracks (1 track = 1 instance) in Cubase and definitely prefer it over rack instruments. I just accept...

This is the standard concert pitch in many countries in Europe. Musicians are used to playing in this pitch and tuning them down to 440Hz could introduce some intonation issues. Cubase How to Export Stems with Send and Master FX?

Thanks, this sounds great. Though I've been using Ozone as a finalizer too (limiter, multiband compressor, widener sometimes). I guess, this all goes down to which plugin you can actually sidechain. As an addition to that, if you are using send reverbs, you need a separate send reverb for each...

    Steming Question

It's a nice tutorial, but kinda missing the point. Using group channels is much faster and would work offline. However the missed point is the problem with no send effects getting into the stem outputs and no master limiter. You could always use separate send fx for each group of instruments...

    Orchestral Tools: OT Sample Player

Many thanks, guys! And to follow up the specific RAM matter, Kontakt is handling that fine, but it could be better. PLAY actually does better in that regard, as it eats up less RAM per instance. Empty instance, I mean. Add Komplete plugin to that, and you get quite a bit of RAM pretty much...

    Orchestral Tools: OT Sample Player

With every new engine, I'm quite worried about performance/stability and memory usage. Since I use instrument tracks in Cubase, rather than rack instruments, this is quite a big deal. It's easy for early build of software to "forget" about things like loading 200 instances in a project and not...

Are you all sure it's not voice limit on those instruments? I used to be an active beta tester for EW since Play version 1. It has gone a long way. The offline bounce, cutting voices and/or sustaining voices were some of the biggest issues that I helped to eliminate. At least this hasn't...

Cubase Midi Recording ahead of the beat!! Whats going on?!

This happens if you are using insert plugins that introduce latency. Especially on master bus. Like Ozone (100-300ms!). I subconsciously learned to play ahead so it sounds in time. Cubase is registering that as early (cause it is). To a point, that in an empty project at low latency when I play...

Sonokinetic Vivace - Phrase based orchestral library

Stretching is more consistent within library and between some of them too because of the fixed tempo for all cues. Different keys also should sound better because of better post-processing after the recording. Recording tempo is usually optimal for the style. Going up or down too much in your...

Sonokinetic Vivace - Phrase based orchestral library

It's normal, that if you choose certain bmp, you will get some artifacts. Less audible if you use multiple mics. Most of Vivace was recorded at 130bpm and some of it (expressionistic patterns) at 100bpm, if I'm not mistaken. Usually Kontakt time machine pro does a pretty good job stretching to...

    Cubase 10

Are you working on .bak file instead of .cpr? When opening a .bak file, Cubase will not create new backups. Rename as .cpr before opening, or save as .cpr right after (incremental save will only save as another .bak and won't autobackup either). - Piotr

    Cubase 9, blasphemous save times.

Not sure about that, Blake. I'm still on 8.5, so it's not something that suddenly started existing in 9.5. Although it may have gone worse, I'm not sure. Over here projects take 20-40s to save, depending on the number of tracks, they go up to 200MB per project file (just the .cpr). What's...

    Cubase 9, blasphemous save times.

I've gotten uses to this, unfortunately. This is a problem of hosting instruments in Cubase directly. Something that Steinberg cannot fix, because it's also being caused by plugins that take time to save. In addition to that some projects files get ridiculously big. Like 150+ MB big over here...

    Sonokinetic releases "Largo"

Where Vivace differs mostly from later libraries is that the orchestration is more open, allowing cross-section combos. Cubase 8.5 Pro (Macro for finding folders in large templates)
