So, what Mac are you going to get next? (Poll)

Well I didn't vote in the poll, but have just been messaged to say my latest Mac has been delivered, and it's a Mid-2012 i7 MacBook Pro which I got for a very reasonable price off eBay. Not for real serious use, but to allow me to mess about with stuff on Logic and Ableton while sitting in the...

Yes, am fully aware "lucky" doesn't do it justice...only thing of any note that I've ever won in my life!

I buy more than I use, and I forget those I buy

It must be a human trait, it affects most of us. I have and use both Ableton and Logic. I also own the Elements version of Cubase 9, but I've never really got on with Cubase, the workflow and interface doesn't suit me. So I have no interest in Cubase Pro, especially with it needing a USB...

Cheapest way to get Komplete 12?

I assume that will be when it’s June in California? Strange, when they are a German company! For UK users who can’t wait, Gear4Music have it at the sale prices, and they have it in stock.

Cheapest way to get Komplete 12?

Just had this myself although I notice they say it will “ship as soon as we have it in stock”. I don’t want a boxed version unless I have to, but if I buy it surely native access will “know” that my account has upgraded and just let me download the stuff? Or is that not how it works?

    Spitfire kepler. . .

I didn't really think this through; Purchased last night. downloaded overnight. Can't play with it tonight as I'm out at the theatre! So will be Saturday at the earliest before I can faff around with it.

Spitfire Audio - Kepler Orchestra - Available NOW

I was in the Science Museum in London at the weekend, where the Apollo 10 capsule is on display. They had balloons up celebrating its 50th which I thought was very sweet.

Kinematik for eDNA Earth..where are the patches?

Just as an off topic tip; if you open an NKS Kontakt library in KK, then go to View>Edit on the menu, you then have the Kontakt browser within the KK window. So, if desired, you can then use the normal methods to open non-NKS instruments (from the Kontakt Libraries browser or even via Quickload)...

    Trailer for New Spitfire Library

Well I received an email telling me my download was ready and giving me a serial number before I even knew it existed and more than half an hour before it was officially released! (I have both Enigma 1 & 2). The frustration is am away on holiday so it will be at least a week tomorrow before I...

How much RAM for 2019 iMac i9

If you mean one of the new models recently released, I don't think it can take 128GB. According to the Apple site, the maximum for the 27" top of the range is 64GB.

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

Not sure what you mean by this, what Spitfire player? Do you mean the LABS player? All the NKS Spitfire libraries that I have, the light guides work.
  13. R

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

Indeed, I worded the question wrongly. I meant why aren't they.
  14. R

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

Only if you want to use the NKS functionality. They aren’t Kontakt instruments, so you have the option to open them as any other plugin, without KK. So why can’t Spitfires non Kontakt plugins be also NKS? I assume there is a cost to them for doing it.
  15. R

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

I agree, fully understand. All I can say, as I think I said earlier that Albions 2-4 are the only "big" libraries not yet NKS (apart from, perhaps Spitfire Percussion? And of course excluding the ones which have only ever been stand alone). I will be disappointed if Albion Two or whatever is...

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

They do address this, but you have to search for it. This is from the FAQ on the Eric Whitacre library page:

The end of Albion 2 Loegria?

I hope this is the start of Albion 2, 3 and 4 joining the NKS functionality of One and V. I can’t work out their strategy on that though. The recent brass, woodwind and LCO libraries are Kontakt/NKS, but the new Evo’s are not. Seems a bit random.

What Qualifications Do You Need To Become A Media Composer...

Regarding future "Labs Events" and the like, I realise it will be very awkward regarding staff etc. but if at all possible could any of these be at weekends rather than on midweek evenings, which effectively makes it impractical to attend for anyone who works full time and is based outside of...

    New Spitfire Evolutions plugins

I like both the Kontakt and the Spitfire interfaces. Ideally I’d have liked the new versions to be NKS compatible but as the Spitfire version (presumably like the other products) gives patch previews a-la Komplete Kontrol the only thing missing is the light guide, which for these libraries is...

    Advantages of Using Komplete Kontrol?

If you open a Kontakt NKS instrument in KK, then go to View>Edit, you then have the normal Kontakt browser within the KK window. You can even then (I think) open non-NKS Kontakt libraries within that same window, from the Kontakt browser in the way you normally would, although the light guide...

    Advantages of Using Komplete Kontrol?

I've no experience of using it without a KK S-series keyboard. But with the keyboard I think it's really useful for the light guide. I still tend to do most things via the software rather than on the keyboard screens though. What's this about the sample player they've added? I hadn't even...

    Are We Still Composers?

I remember having similar arguments with a pal of mine in the early 80's, regarding drum machines, which he claimed were "cheating". For me, absolutely anything goes if it allows a person to release creative urges, providing they don't claim it to be something it's not. But I'm speaking from a...

Spitfire Studio Woodwinds - Coming Soon

Decided to hold fire on this even though I have the pro strings and brass. I decided it would be little more than an extavagance for me, I don't really need it even though it would be nice to complete the collection. But Friday lunchtimes at work are dangerous times. Bought it.

Perhaps the price for the bundles will remain as is after the initial promotion for the single product ends? It would then represent a much bigger saving.

    U-he Diva & Repro on sale for 50% - redundant if i have Arturia V collection 6?

Ha ha. Actually I have the V Collection and I think Arturia get some over the top criticism, but I do agree there is something not quite "there" with the sound of their analogue synth recreations, eventhough I love the GUI's. I do like the organs and the Fairlight and Synclavier recreations very...

    U-he Diva & Repro on sale for 50% - redundant if i have Arturia V collection 6?

I have had Repro and Zebra for some time, and added Diva yesterday. The only downside to Repro and Diva is the CPU hit. Unless your computer is a beast, be prepared to do much freezing of tracks if you want more than one or two instances.

Spitfire Audio London Contemporary Orchestra Textures – Available now

My opinion has always been that music is an art, not a sport, so anything goes as long as you are honest about it. It’s only “cheating” if you claim it to be something it’s not. Am old enough to remember being told by a friend in the early 80’s that drum machines were “cheating”!

Spitfire Audio London Contemporary Orchestra Textures – Available now

I bought Omnisphere about 6 months ago and have barely used it, it’s so overwhelmingly huge and complex I haven’t had the time to sit down and dig into it. Think it will be a slow burner over the coming months/years.

    Paragon NTFS or MacDrive

Backups should always be a given anyway, regardless of what type of drives or file system. I switched from PC to Mac six months ago and have been using Paragon to allow me to write to my NTFS formatted NAS drive, and it’s worked flawlessly so far.

    My first attempt

My very first try at something using orchestral libraries. Am a complete novice with both the techniques involved and with orchestral composition, so there is a huge amount of Imposter Syndrome going on here! Am quite pleased with it though and it makes me want to explore further. Inspired by a...

Old thread but for any other newbies who may read in future, I have had a BCF2000 gathering dust for a few months after I grabbed it off eBay. Finally set it up with Logic last night and got it successfully working with Spitfire libraries with faders assigned for Dynamics, Expression and...

How do I feel? Well the cigarette after it was more of a cigar and several large wines. I won the Spitfire Everything bundle! :faint::dancer: (The 'Gift On' items are already dealt with before anyone asks). In all seriousness, am still in a state of shock. As the draw was being made I was...

Thanks again Spitfire. For those of us who can't justify spending on EWC, even at the discounted price, this is wonderful. I see Union Chapel Organ is 33% off for November. 2018 Mac Mini

You are right in the scenario you describe. Although I suspect in the main these will appeal to keen amateurs rather than professionals with deadlines to meet. Oh come on...it's Space Grey!!!:faint: Personally am getting by fine with 16GB RAM but then am not doing projects with dozens of tracks, etc. hopefully by the time my current 2012 model kicks the bucket these new ones might be reasonably priced second hand.

NI Komplete as bread and butter?

Correct. The NI hardware products come with Komplete Select, which is basically a taster. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keyboards/komplete-kontrol-s49-s61/included-software/ If you're after orchestral stuff you will need to upgrade to Komplete Ultimate.

Apple event announced for 30th October

In terms of this year, i.e. ignoring the Mac Pro which they have said is for 2019, if they just bring back the 2012-style Mac Mini with some higher spec processor and RAM options that would be ideal for many of us keen amateurs I think. Of course, something which can hold multiple storage drives...
