    Thomas Bergersen's Hybrid Symphony "Seven"

Nowadays, trailer music is downgraded by the lowest common denominator composition-wise, so yes, what TJ does is of much higher caliber, but i agree that there is a certain "epicness" and simple, catchy melodies that do put it in that realm. After all, he has been doing just that with Nick for...

Writing music after a while becomes like any other job...

I think that life circumstances can be important factors of whether or not you feel pressured, and experience the grind of a professional career: - are you married with kids, and does your family depend on your income for survival? If it's the case, you certainly have to make more compromises in...

    My latest reels

Hi, I meant to say that writing a collection of tracks under one theme such as "piano and strings" or "suspense" or "chamber orchestral" or "epic"...etc would probably have a better chance to make an impression, rather than a reel that is all over the place, such as the one I shared here.

Thank you so much! I also work in collaboration, so bringing in Francis MBappe from Cameroon or Steve Rice definitely help nail the authenticity of what i am after. But you make a very good point! And i am on the fence about that (versatility vs specialization) On one hand, a versatile...

Stepping out of my comfort zone, composing Salsa

Personally, the biggest issue is the feel of your rhythmic tracks. It just doesn't groove. There are so many great percussion loops out there, performed by authentic salsa players, and i would recommend you use one of those to give you instant vibe. It would help you get familiar with the real...

    Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass (MSB)

I also own HB: There is no way the two compare or are in the same league. HB doesn't have the line shaping abilities or flexibility of MSB MSB is a real next generation. HB was great when it came out and still offer some very nice instruments.....

    Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass (MSB)

May i suggest that you quantize your lines too much, and that the tempo is too rigid for best results? It doesn't feel like it was performed by human beings...

Sure: i thought that the shorts were not tight enough. But in order to have really tight fast shorts, you must: - Select the shorts (via KS in my case) - Set the Tighten knob all the way up, which by default was all the way down. Make sure to be in Tile mode (i think that it now is set this way...

    Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass (MSB)

Small comment: this library is deep and offers a lot of flexibility for line shaping. It has a substantial learning curve in order to get the most out of it. To think that you can fire it up for the first time and write a great demo, without learning all of its features first is not realistic...

You have many options for controlling the timbre. By default, you control timbre with CC1 AND velocities. So changing CC1 values alone may not have as much of an impact if velocity values stay the same. You can also control timbre with CC1 alone, in which case moving the mod wheel has an...

    Exponential Audio acquired by Izotope

Not sure what to think of the merger. One thing that bothered me with Exponential Audio was that there were constantly new offerings that were in reality the verbs' previous generation with more features (R2 to R4, Phoenixverb to Nimbus) . Granted, developers need to pay the bills, and can get...

Cubase users - how do you manage TEMPO changes for Reel/Entire score

I guess it allows you to develop your changed cue without worrying about colliding or messing up tempo information for the following parts/cues that you want to preserve. Once you are done with the changes, you can always bring back the moved material to the time code location of your choice...

Cubase users - how do you manage TEMPO changes for Reel/Entire score

Composers friend of mine, that scored the Money Heist hit, told me about this a couple of months ago: Do a global copy of all of the material that takes place after the new tempo change, and paste one hour past their original position. This way, all of your work is preserved, independently from...

When to use 7/8 Time Signature

Odd meters are great for film. The fact that they end their cycles on the upbeat of an expected 4/4 or 6/8 or 12/8 (etc...) contribute to the effect of never quite rhythmically "resolving", adding motion. They also add excitement by getting away from our familiar western habits (4/4... 3/4)

Streaming services fight royalty increase for song writers

The same old thing is getting shafted by big corporations. You seem to enjoy it. Duress is second nature for most musicians. But your failure to acknowledge that the whole music industry has been under attack, and is going through a major crisis is pretty pathetic. Like Daryl is saying, enjoy...

Streaming services fight royalty increase for song writers

Are you serious?! You can't use the technology to your advantage when every time a new distribution platform is created we, composers, lose all that we had gained in previous legal battles. Tech has nothing to do with it. Our intellectual property is what is at stakes.

Amp simulation: Guitar rig 5 and other options

Thank you so much! I am not an expert on pedals, but from what i have seen, you may want to look into it for your needs. It seems that a number of companies (Electro-Harmonix among them) are into that market. But nothing that i have heard is particularly earth shattering, which is the reason...

Amp simulation: Guitar rig 5 and other options

Unless you want to do this for live situations, you could do this post performance by recording your guitar track and then inserting a plugin such as MIDI Guitar (https://www.jamorigin.com/) and assigning the MIDI performance to the synth of your choice, like I did here: I am so dissatisfied...

Amp simulation: Guitar rig 5 and other options

For years, the consensus has been that Kemper is better for tone, and AxeFX for FXS. You are right, they are both better than most other products (considering the price, they'd better be!) Since i have so many FXS plugins, the FXs advantage is not an issue for me, especially since Kemper has...

Amp simulation: Guitar rig 5 and other options

Not to rehash the same topic, but AxeFX is not the same as Kemper. It used to be that the Axe had superior FXs and inferior tone, but Kemper has caught up a bit with FX upgrades, and is about to release a reverb update that should take care of that. For tone, the Kemper is definitely the winner
