Something is Coming - Spitfire Thunderbolt

Go back to Native Access, look at either "Installed Products" or maybe "Not Installed" and find Alternative Solo Strings. Click on prompt to the right, and all will be well. Confusing, has happened last several times for me too.

My early chicken scratches would only do a disservice. Let me refer you to Oliver's practical demo which shows how well AltSS sits with other instruments. https://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/a-z/alternative-solo-strings/?v=9zg0m1mw7d4

And (speaking of the British reserve myth) you've clearly never listened to a Christian Henson vlog, especially one of those with a language warning at the start.

Something is Coming - Spitfire Thunderbolt

BDT is reserved, maybe somewhat distant, and best used for underscore that never heats up very much. It's a rather dispassionate, objective observer of the story. ASS is in-your-face, highly emotional, dramatic, almost rudely personal, and...the list goes on. It demands attention. It's...

Something is Coming - Spitfire Thunderbolt

I was very surprised how good this package sounds! Been tripping out for the last 1/2 hour just playing all the sections ensemble style. Terrific sound, incredibly expressive! Nothing sterile about it, it's the genuine thing, that's how it feels. Very organic. Sounds like I'm there in a...

Something is Coming - Spitfire Thunderbolt

If I had to choose between LCOS and ASS, it would be ASS every time! (Don't get me wrong here). Alternative will probably become my most used string library, since it offers most of the standard patches in fairly "normal" and very playable form...but with an attitude! LCOS has mostly far more...

Something is Coming - Spitfire Thunderbolt

That is one wonderful, rambling piece! Really quite inventive. It answers the question: what the heck can you do with a bunch of oddball strings? That sound would brighten up ensembles of any kind, I think. Now I have to pick it up, Spitfire owes you one. Sorry to drift OT, but just had to...

Transcribed: Danny Elfman - Black Beauty

Wow, I'm impressed! Well done, what a lot of work! I went back and forth a bit, of course there are little differences here and there but nothing that really changes anything. Your mix sounds somewhat compressed compared to the original, but compositionally I think you nailed it. I bet you...

I'm hearing a somewhat dry orchestra tuning up for action! But yes the woods do kinda pop out... Spitfire, it's only been a few days since LCOT! Have you no mercy?

    My first orchestra

EWSO, the East West Symphony Orchestra is quite a bargain at around $200 to $250 when it's on sale, which is often. It's an older lib, but the technical quality is excellent and the value per money spent is very high. There are interesting oddball instruments like a Wagner Tuben, and a very...

    Crackling noises with NEW SUPERCOMPUTER!??

I built two new computers last year. I noticed that the BIOS defaults had the CPUs idling at something around 1.2ghz, which meant the very powerful systems would just stumble all over themselves if asked to play notes before they had a chance to ramp up the speed, and then ramp down the speed...

Samuel Barber - Adagio for strings. Possible setup?

I'm absolutely sure we will never be able to recreate the emotional pull of seeing music performed, which so greatly enhances the emotional transfer between player and audience. But I'll reserve judgement on the emotional potential of sampled performances for a few more years. As Eloy pointed...

    Cover: The adventures of Tintin

Outstanding work, great orchestration! I see from your Youtube page that you used EW Hollywood Orchestra gold, Sonokinetic Da Capo, Redroom Audio Palette Primary colors, and NI Session Strings in Cubase 6 elements. You brought those together in a remarkably impressive way!

How to make Kontakt automatically update the instrument window to current track?

I had hoped this behavior would be part of Kontakt 6 or Cubase 10...but no! To be fair to Kontakt, it's more of a DAW job than a Kontakt job. Little incoveniences like this tend to add up into a lot of extra work at the end of the day. I do so dislike messing up the wrong Kontakt screen just...

Ditto that! Would also be incredibly cool if one could right click on those buttons and move the mouse up and down to adjust individual button volumes. Shouldn't be hard to do (cue sound of programmers' bodies hitting the floor).

Between OACE and LCOT, I would chose OACE by a good margin. It'll work with just about anything whether orchestral or pad-like, LCOT is pretty much niche'd into the pad department. In many cases Omnisphere could sub for LCOT, but OACE is it's own unique thing.

I view Evos as used by Spitfire as timbre (and maybe static harmony) with movement. Haven't noticed any videos that offer good examples of uses in composition.

IMHO they're not even close, and not especially complimentary. Time Macro is orchestral and melodic, Textures is very pad-like. Some of the Texture patches (mostly the pianos) can be played melodically, but for the most part if you want a lead voice or even a rapidly changing harmonic...

Well some nice sounds here as I play through the patches. LOTS of reverb on the far mics, no surprises there but fortunately the close mics approach a kind of almost dry sound that can be beefed up to almost any extent with the far mics alone. The hangar sound is quite nice and even unique...

Did you also recently (within last 2 weeks) start getting audio glitches (Cubase)?

I updated to Cubase 10.0.10, and the latest Halion6 a few weeks ago. For some reason the audio driver changed from my normal Focusrite driver to Steinberg's generic ASIO driver, even though the audio was still coming through the Focusrite interface. Got some glitching that went away when I...

Pass the synergy, please! Loving the sounds of LCO, but it's biggest limitation is that it's hard to ensemble with "normal" sounding instruments in composition except where LCO is the lead instrument, and even then it takes some work. This may be the missing link. So much for "gawd I have...

Slow, delicate String tremolos. Any advice?

Hard to believe nobody has mentioned Albion 5 Tundra! In the "Individual Patches" section there are about 16+ long/short patches divided into high and low sections. Every one of them is subtly breathtaking in its own special way with varying degrees of tremelo from the slightest pulsing to...

Your Purchases of 2018 and Your Wishes for 2019

Ugh, I just realized that although my pair of 2TB SSDs have barely enough room to soak up my bespoke Spitfire drive now on the boat, I probably don't have room to actually EXPAND them on the install SSD, which temporarily requires twice the install space. Maybe if I install big libs first...

Tina poured her heart out playing that cello, and it comes through in the samples. It's 8 parts Tina, and 1 part magnificent cello, and 1 part superb recording. And a dash of Kontakt scripting. It's actually a very limited lib, just one legato patch with a poly sustain option and some...
