Internal SSD for both system and libraries?

Hi,

i am about to purchase a Macbook Pro 16" to replace my mid-2012 15" one. It would be used mainly for music production and I'm starting with orchestral composition. Although I'm already using an internal and an external SSD, my current machine is too old for me to have enough experience with performance with large setups. I'm still not decided on which internal SSD capacity to order for the new Macbook. This would depend on how I manage my music libraries.

Currently, I have less than 1 TB of libraries, but this can increase quite a bit in the expected lifetime of my new machine. I am currently using an external SSD (Samsung T5) which is permanently connected and I'm not very enthusiast that the new setup would be the same.

So, would it be sensible to order the MB Pro with 2 TB internal SSD? This would allow me to have all my current libraries and system on the internal drive and when it would be time I could add an external one for the less used libraries.

Is this a problem to use the same SSD for system and libraries? I think i have seen some messages in this sense but i have not found a clear answer with arguments.

Although I have a little fear about using the internal SSD for everything. I have my current system on an external SSD because I could not upgrade to Mojave on the internal one because i had a bad SMART report. I'm still using it for storage without problems since, but i would not like to have the same problem with the new one. Maybe using it for librairies and system would put it to too much load and lessen its lifetime.

Of course, having a large internal SSD is more expensive, but as I would like this to be as future-proof and hassle-free as possible, I would be willing to spend the extra cash if needed. Also, the option is now less expensive that it used to and the base configuration for i9 16" is 1 TB already, so the price difference is "only" a bit more than 400€ for the 2 TB option.

What are your experiences and what would be your advices?
