Help me purchase : Spitfire or Audio Imperia

Hey Guys,

I currently own the Native instruments symphony essential and I'm looking to upgrade.
I have a student discount for Albion one which brings its price down to around 200 pounds(UK).

The Albion looked great until I heard about the Audio Imperia Nucleus. I'd qualify for a student discount on that as well.

I'm currently torn between buying Albion one and Audio Imperia's Nucleus. I've thought about NISS, but reading through some of the opinions here and having some experience with the essential collection, NISS looks less attractive.

I'm also aware that the main difference between them is the choice of individual sections in Nucleus and the more broad orchestra patches in Albion one. However, I can't seem to decide if I want individual sections or just orchestral patches.

I'm hoping for some guidance in terms of thinking about these choices. Also, would it make sense to invest in both?

I have no experience with Nucleus. Albion One comes with loads of other content. Not sure how much Nucleus has besides some drones and pads. I think it will ultimately be decided by your choice in regards to the sections though.

It might help to share more of what type of music you are targeting.

Having individual sections and solo instruments gives you a much broader range of expression with the orchestra if that's what you want to explore, and you are willing to put in the time learning and building the palette you want. Albion One isn't trying to offer that. it's wonderful, and fast to work with, if you a willing to paint with broad strokes with the orchestra and add in all the cinematic sounds and rhythms it also includes.

I don't know much about Nucleus - with both Jeager and Nucleus that all the demos seem so EPIC I couldn't tell how they do with softer playing. The list of included sounds seems great. It ends today but there's a 50% student discount on Spitfire including the Studio Orchestra which would put it in the same range.

Audio Imperia should definitely include more tracks that include both Classic mode ("as recorded" vs Modern mode, which has been slightly processed to be more Epic) and those with at least soft passages. Jaeger is aimed more for hybrid scoring, Nucleus is aimed more for orchestral. Both can do either, to varying degrees of success (I only have Nucleus). I'd wager Jaeger and Albion One are more alike than either is to Nucleus - though with a fair amount of overlap.

For full, flexible all-in-one orchestras, I don't know that Nucleus can be beat for the money. At least not yet. Of course there's other options that emphasize, or leave out, some different things that may or may not make the other options better suited to your musical needs. Hollywood Gold is a good example, with somewhat lower quality, but lots more articulations. When Hollywood Gold is priced ~< $300 on sale it's an even tougher choice. Or Albion One at ~ $250 on sale. Etc. The Orchestra Complete on sale would be worth checking out, too.

If I only had one library, I'd get Nucleus. I have both and the only things I use Albion One is rhythm loop, string long pad. Nucleus, I use all of them. I especially like their spiccato strings, brass, trumpet is very good. Choir is just really awesome. They also have broad sections patches like Albion as well as individual. I really wished I had Nucleus when I started out.

I have both and feel that Nucleus will get a lot more use out of me in future projects.

You can make a full orchestral template plus a bit of sound design for 20gb footprint (which also sounds great). That’s nothing to be sniffed at...

Thanks for all your replies guys, really appreciate it.

I do have the NI essential series which does include almost the same instruments and articulations as the Audio Imperia Nucleus (except choir samples). Thinking through the replies here, I'm not sure if I fully feel compelled to buy Nucleus just because the overall sounds are better.

Are there any other factors to consider in terms upgrading from NISSE to Nucleus?

I'm guessing at this point I'd rather invest in individual offerings from different companies for each section of the orchestra or save up for something like the BBCSO.

Finally,Would Albion serve as a good addition though to NISSE or should I just look past it?

Kontakt factory library has a nice but limited choir. Truthfully, if you don't need it now for some reason, I would just save and get something a little better like BBCSO, SSS or OT's orchestra, if you are planning on doing orchestral music. You have enough now between NISSE and the Factory library to learn how to make music. I've spent a lot of money on things that aren't quite it and rarely use them now.

However, if you are planning on doing film music, I would grab Albion One. I think Nucleus is great as a starter library, but that would be if you didn't already have NISSE, which is a similar starter library, if that makes sense. But this is my opinion.

Thinking along the same lines as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
