Spitfire Evo libraries...

So then, I was wondering, who has the Evo libraries from Spitfire and I was wondering what your thoughts are on them after getting them under your fingers so to speak? Is there a lot of crossover between them? Are they worth owning all of them (that's probably the most silly question I've ever asked)? They seem very useful for underscore.

I think I may start with Symphonic String Evolutions as I love the SSO stuff and that would sonically fit perfectly! I worried these are very addictive and I'll buy them all though!

I own Olafur Arnalds Chamber Evos and Angular String Evos, and they're both pretty excellent. Angular is more specifically geared toward creepy and atonal sounds though, whereas Olafur Chamber is great in so many different scenarios.

I went with Olafur Chamber as my first Evo library because someone recommended it to me as "the best one", and I have no regrets about that purchase -- it's super versatile and sounds amazing, layers brilliantly with Spitfire Chamber Strings too :emoji_slight_smile:

What EVO library is the least geared towards suspense ?
I am trying to create some ambient warm, soothing, pleasing beds of music.
I don't want screeching, or something that would be more suited to a horror movie. Olafur's struck me as too screechy for me; Angular Strings, again to suspenseful.

What EVO would you recommend for warm stuff, thats not meant to be edgy but soothing, like you're being carried away on a cloud ?
(I am thinking Symphonic Strings Evolutions... unless anyone can give me a different opinion. Paul on his walkthroughs tends to lean towards suspenseful, melancholy stuff generally though! )

I only have Angular (i think that was Evo 1), and absolutely love what they did with that library. Genius shit right there! My ONLY complaint is that they didn't record basses for it. Really a shame.

And yes, it does shine brightest in underscoring situations.

I think their Symphonic Strings evo does exactly that.

Yep, the Symphonic Evo is great for the warm smooth stuff. There's a few atonal ones, but so long as you avoid them, it works wonderfully for that purpose.

I'd like to get Symphonic String Evolutions also, it is the most attractive one to me, yet I don't hear people talk about it as much.

One reason you don’t hear as much about the Symphonic String Evo is until recently it wasn’t available for sale on its own.

Hi All, I’m on the verge of doing something very costly so wanting to run it by some first. With all of the amazing libraries, and I note that many own multiple or some have purchased a library with a view of purchasing many more, if I overextend myself and just go ahead now and purchase the ‘Everything’ bundle would this make sense? The reason I’m also asking is that I note that many of the libraries are similar (eg. BBCO to other orch. libraries) so I don’t want to be in essence paying for new organisations of similar sounds etc. (I know there are differences but if you get my point). The evos stuff all is just amazing....just so much to choose from so looking at the most economical option if in reality I can see myself keep adding to a collection..

thanks for your thoughts! And no.. I’m not super rich so this would certainly be a stretch(!) but as a serious investment wanted to get advice. Thanks

I think you'd have to be extremely sure you were gonna make good use of a large portion of their libs to do this.

I'd suggest its far better to use the collections to get the libraries you specifically want. Still costly if you have a fair range to cover, but even though you pay a bit more per library, you'd still save plenty vs. just buying everything. It is VERY hard to make good use of all the libs they offer. I think a fair percentage you would find redundant and not use.

You know there is a bundle that covers all the evos, right?

I don't see any reason get the everything bundle unless money is no object. Like Markleake said, look at the bundles. Zero in on what your real needs are. I think you would be better off having a smaller collection of libraries and learn them well. And the wishlist sale comes around in about a month. You can always add to your collection at that point.

LCO is my favourite followed closely by Olafur Chamber

Same here!... I have the Symphonic Strings Evo too which I like but LCOT and OACE see more work. If any of these Evos are to be used in more than an underscore capacity somehow LCOT and OACE are the ones more likely to initiate that possibility as they are very inspiring libraries for emotive composition.

My only gripe with the samples (and virtually all longs in all other Spitfire libraries) is that their samples volume can not be controlled by key velocity. In fact the Evos don't actually respond to anything but note on! However I do see why they left them like this: these are long samples that evolve over time so effectively the dynamics are baked into the performance of each sample themselves.

Thanks. Makes sense. I’ve read that part of the deal for “everything” buyers, all future products are provided at the same level of discount. Hmmmmm. Hard to decide!

To wrap this up I’m not going for the Everything. Great advice, thanks.
I’m going for the EVOL bundle and the BBS Symphony.

Not quite sure what you mean by screechy - unless you mean the sul pont articulations, and maybe also some of the crazier evos.

If you look at the waves, this give you a tremendous base for archetypal warm textural stuff. And maybe 5 our of the 6 first evos give what I consider really warm, subtle sul tasto pads. (The sixth evolves to sul pont, so I’ll often switch that one out when it turns up in a randomized Evo).

I would use the crazier and sul pont articulations spareingly, so I seldom use a randomly generated Evo without at least reigning in some of the crazier artics that show up.

I am interested in getting the woodwind evos during the wishlist sale. Does anyone use the Evos with the Spitfire player an can comment on RAM usage? I have Eric Whitacre choir and it works for my setup and projects, but the LABS player seems to use several GB of RAM with just the piano loaded (I have almost all labs though). Both EWC and LABS take way more RAM apart from the sample load than Kontakt.

Thanks for your help

Been meaning to pick up the Olafur Arnalds Chamber Evos, really beautiful sounding library, and I’ve heard it blends really well under normal longs to add some life.
