8Dio Euphonium - I think they have a winner on their hands

I'll hold out for a user review before I believe anything in an 8dio video...

... but yes, it really does sound great.
Haha... yea, maybe Troels fools us by laying live recordings over it.

I have no idea what you mean... all 8dio videos have shown the library I got so far (I have over 50) and so does this one, as I can say having had the (beta version) library.

Don’t want to start a debate on this thread, as what I mean here has been amply debate on dozens of threads. But it’s simply an empirical fact that I want user reviews on 8dio libs before making any decisions - would look forward to demo from yourself, for instance. ;)

But again, this library really does sound great. I’m tempted to pick it up.

It sounds lovely from the video, but I have a hard time imagining where I’d need a section of six euphs playing in unison. A comparable solo eupho library would be great.

Well, there actually are a bunch of demos, including mine, on the site. (They feature all 3 instruments though, not just Euphonium. Flugelhorn and Cimbasso ensembles are coming next. Not sure why itÄs split like that...).
All I can say is that what I heard in the video sounds like what I had, with additional features like arc legato and all the mic positions.

So I'm going to count that as a user review then :)

Which demo is yours?

Yup, basically. ;)

"Between Past And Present" is my demo.
Not at all out of the box, but if people want to replicate the exact sound I can show all the processing. Just EQ, stereo-enhancer & reverb.
Also only 1 mic position available, the sound could certainly be even better with the additional mics (was the case with Intimate Studio Woodwinds & Brass - the room mic in the full version removed pretty much all issues I had with the one mic in the BETA).

Beautiful track. The lib really does sound great.

The Euphonium has such a beautiful tone. I'll probably wait until I can hear all the instruments in this release.

The "Ostinato 8th" (and others) articulations sound like a new concept.
I wonder if it's recorded in the same hall as the main Century Brass; I could not find that on the webpage. Anyway, sounds very inspiring.

Due to recent musical obligations I have not had the pleasure to post on the forum in a while, but I just wanted to say that I absolutely love the sound of the euphonium and had the pleasure of performing on mine for the 1st time just a couple of weeks ago. This horn is truly the cello of the brass world, surprising agile, and full capable of complete emotion and expression. When I played the euphonium in this large church the audience commented that the sound literally resonated through them and they could actually feel the music. Hearing euphonium with organ was quite a religious experience also if I dare say. In musical contexts the euphonium adds weight and warmth to any line. It can double the melody an 8va lower, play a soaring counter-melody, or blend perfectly in the harmony at the tenor, baritone, or bass lines. I’m writing for a few professional groups right now and a perfect blend for a true reverent sound is playing a hymn or choral setting using only members of the tuba family: flugelhorns (yes, they are soprano tubas,) euphoniums, and the bass and contrabass tubas. Unfortunately, there’s no “alto tuba.” I might have one built in the future though. Here’s a pic at my 1st euphonium gig:

And just for fun, here’s a couple more instruments that I play but have not really been sampled if memory serves me correct: the horn on the left is called a Kaiser Baritone which is basically a rotary-valved German euphonium! So picture this, the warmth of the euphonium but a little more presence and with the legato transition changes of the Horn in F in comparison to piston valves. Wonderful for beautiful legato phrases. The horn on the right is a Bb German Tenor Horn which is basically a rotary Bb baritone which is more mellow than a trombone but brighter than a euphonium. The German Tenor Horn is featured as a solo instrument in Maher’s 7th Symphony.

Oh no!!!
You're about to make me buy another horn :)
I do a lot of recording work on horns and it would be amazing to have a euphonium.
We'll see....
I just need a good gig to use as an excuse

Can you change dynamics while playing the triplets and ostinati or are they pre-recorded as a whole phrase?

So...I got it.
Two thumbs up from me.

One thing I would like to have control over....

Staccato and Short Attack play full duration automatically with no release control.
ARC and Crescendos DO have a Release Tails Control.
Tuplet, Triplet, Quintuplet play full length
Ostinatos cut off when you relase
Runs Up and Down play full length and are a literal octave.

Super playable...sounds great.

There is not a fast attack legato.
For faster lines, you have to switch to Sustain (Poly)
If you play moving lines in Staccato, they have to be slow enough to not overlap.

Keyswitching works great. The articulations match tonally really well.
Recording is excellent. No turd polishing required.
I really like the "Spots" version

Chordal Legato is super useful.
