Plugin to isolate portions of stereo field

Is anyone aware of a plugin that can be used to isolate portions of the stereo field (with more control than just left, right, mid, side)? The intended use is for critical listening/ dissecting of mixes on finished tracks. I guess it could be an offline processing app instead of a VST. Google hasn't turned up anything.

Ideally the plugin would allow me to select a certain portion of the stereo field (possibly a variably angled cone) in order to highlight/isolate that portion. I don't know much about DSP so maybe this is completely impossible!

Thanks!

Is it possible with M/S? You break something down so that you end up with the L C R components, if you mix them together or flip the polarity of the center and then mix it in? I don't know if that would work.

I feel like Capo on OSX will do it. I mean, it's UGLY, and IME, of limited use...intended for musical CONTENT transcription...not a plug in, but a transcription app. You're not going t o be able to tell anything sonically about "mixes"--it's for being able to point it at a solo panned 3 oclock and get it isolated enough to clearly hear the notes...

I'll check out Capo. The point is really to try to improve upon what I can get from just critical listening, so we'll see. Thanks for trying at least!

I have no idea about mixing in different components to isolate parts of a track, maybe that would work? I'm guessing if it were that simple there'd be a lot of plugins already doing this though.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but there's Riffstation, now free, that can isolate/mute portions of the stereo field... I use it for trancribing when I need to isolate instruments

I use the often scandalously cheap Waves Center plugin. It's quite simple but effective.
