New Sample Orchestra

Hello everyone. I am brand new here and seeking help. I’m fairly new to MIDI composing mainly film scores. Currently I have Spitfire’s BBC SO Core but I’ve recently encountered a bug where the legato is basically broken. I need to get some work done tomorrow and it seems spitfire will be unable to solve the issue by tomorrow. My options now are to buy another library and I’m wanting feedback on which to get. I’m currently looking at Spitfire’s symphonic orchestra, the full line from symphonic studio series, or cinebrass, cinestrings, and a winds library from either of the beforementioned libraries or Berlin winds. At this point I just need to something to get work done but I would also like something that might fill a gap of BBC SO. Any suggestions and feedback would be very much appreciated.

Given that "tomorrow" is very soon and not only would you need to buy a library, but also download the thing, I'm wondering if it's more viable to use the community to come up with a workaround for the issue you are experiencing. A download of even just one of the libraries you reference could take half a day or more, even on a great connection.

Can you describe the problem or even provide some audio examples? Do you have this problem for all instruments, or just some?

Thanks for the quick responses! Downloading I'm not super worried about. And neither is the cost (to a reasonable extent). We have very fast internet where I'm located. I'm not sure what the rules are regarding uploading things but I do have a couple videos I shot with my phone demonstrating the problem. I wasn't able to directly capture through my DAW or screen capture software due to the audio routing, but basically on every instrument the legato is not ending when I move to another note. The original pitch and any after ring out until I release the key on my controller.

Sign up for Composer Cloud for one month, start downloading Hollywood Strings Gold asap, and if you don't find a suitable patch there at least you're only down 20-30 bucks I think. Good legato, lots of mics so you can make it fit.
I have not checked out Composers Cloud but I will look into it.

I resorted to getting a new one because I'm about at my wits end trying to troubleshoot the problem. Spitfire's been great so far but I don't think they've seen this bug yet. And any other suggestions are more than welcome. And I should clarify: I don’t have a deadline due tomorrow or anything but I have a deadline coming up soon that I need to make some progress on. Thanks.

There are so many string libraries out there... bigger, smaller, roomy, dry... or just a replacement for BBCSO?

Vista from Performancesamples migt be an option. It's a legato library only... no shorts, no pizz etc. It's a more romantic vibrato style (and no separate second violins). But the legato is beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm looking at the library now. How are the other sections? I would need brass and winds as well.

You need a complete full orchestra because of the legatos of all instruments in BBCSO? I didn't find any problem there... ok, every legato and every library works a bit different but I think BBCSO is one of the better playable libraries from Spitfire.

Cinematic Studio Series is a full orchestra except percussion.
VSL has a big selection orchestral sections of different sizes and room or dry.
EastWest has a complete orchestra too.
Orchestraltools too.
8dio too.
Cinesamples too.
Audioimperia too... oh wait: no woodwind section.
Strezov Sampling too.

are you sure you're using a legato articulation? Sounds like you could be using simply a longs patch.

alternatively, there could be an issue with your sustain pedal/controller? Is the polarity reversed? does this only happen on BBCSO ?

Yeah then all you have to do is learn how to use it. With EastWest, that could take months. ;)

I know a lot of people here look their noses down at this, but check Amadeus. A full orchestra, ensembles, FULL set of solos, and an easy-to-use interface, so you should get up to speed quickly.

Or really if you just need to work some things out for now and not a final product, download a freebie like ProjectSAM or VSCO.

I guess "need" is an overstatement. Like I said in my original post I'm relatively new to the sample world. With BBCSO as my only library having it not working properly is incredibly frustrating especially since I need to get things done. What I was trying to do was to kill two (or three) birds with one stone: a library to allow me to work soon, one that would fill any gaps (one or more, not all) BBCSO has, and add a new color to my palette. I had always planned to add more libraries to my template that bring something different to the plate. The short time span that I need to make the decision is, admittedly, my own fault. I've been trying to fix what I have, which I'm sure will be sorted. I had really hoped it would be sorted but unfortunately its not. I'm open to any suggestions to fix what I have as well if anyone has any idea what's wrong. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I'm not sure how many other options I have.

Yeah, I'm sure. I've owned the library for a year or so and it's worked fine until recently. I hadn't changed anything. I thought the sustain might be the culprit so I've checked the polarity, unplugged it, and even factory reset my MIDI controller for good measure. Still have the problem. I have a (poor quality) recording of it. As I said before I'm not sure of there are any stipulations on posting media but I'd be happy to provide it. It only happens in BBCSO. I have Albion IV, and Symphonic Studio Solo Strings that both work fine. I should also mention its on every instrument's legato patch.

I will look into those thank you for the suggestion.

He needs one patch, I think he can figure it out.

There's also Sonuscores The Orchestra, although it does come with the orchestration engine as its main allure which you may or may not use.

Do you actually have a deadline tomorrow, like showing someone finished work, or do you just need to get some ideas down? If the latter, I would think it would make a lot more sense to use cheap or free tools (maybe Red Room Audio's free orch paired with instruments from the Kontakt Factory Library as needed) and replace them (if you want) when you get BBCSO back on its feet. Rather than jumping into a big investment without time to think it through. I know you say money's not an issue, but still no reason to make a hasty decision -- unless you're really up against the wall.

EDIT: This is the one I was thinking of: https://redroomaudio.com/product/palette-primary-colors/

No, I have a deadline next week. You have a very good point I'll check out Red Room. Thank you!
