Announcing Emotica - Coming this Fall/Winter

Hey there,

I just want to drop a quick note here that I am working on something new as well as the already announced libraries. Won't tell too much since I am still in the sounddesign phase but will post some videos and audio within the coming weeks so stay tuned :)

But here's a first shot at the UI for now:

Best

Paul :)

I'm excited! The UI looks beautiful! :)

Great to hear it, Paul! Always looking forward to a new SAS library. The graphic concept deviates quite a bit from the ones in your past products, but it is beautiful and clean-looking nevertheless. I'm especially intrigued by the third icon. ;)

Thanks for chiming in Tomislav :)
And yeah, it is different from my other products graphicwise, but with the library in mind this fit just much more than my usual scheme with the big bullseye. Also this is only the performance panel(and the startup page) so the Mixer and Effects will look more 3dimensional again ;)

The only thing I am teasing is that it is about strings, but not another orchestral string library, it's more about bringing designed, hybrid, organic and synthesized (that's what the icons from left to right mean) string elements together within one instrument. So in general it is more experimental and about creating vivid pad/texture sounds by using all those elements. I think there are already enough string libs out there, but still you can never have enough of them... :)

If this is the case, I'm already sold out! I can always easily find a spot for such strings libraries in my work, sometimes even more than for traditional ones. Looking forward to updates on your progress with the new library. :)

You're welcome. I'll keep you posted :)

Well, I have now most things recorded so will start into sounddesign phase from now on and I thought about the engine a little and was wondering if what you guys would appreciate regarding the format:
  1. Making it Kontakt 5 and also the Presets in K5, but also a Kontakt 6 version with the better effects
  2. Making it Kontakt 5, but also a Kontakt 6 version with better effects and the presets
So it's a choice I have to made since I really like the K6 reverb and delay a lot more than the K5 legacy ones so it makes more sense to me, but still I don't want to let anyone hanging. Also, depending on how good the resonance is am I planning to make this for Player also so the second question would be, how many of you are interested in having it for Kontakt Player or if most of you just do not care?

Paul :)

For myself, I know I'm going to buy it whatever, as I love the libraries of yours that I already have, and I increasingly find myself drawn to more sound-designy, "hybrid" strings sounds etc because they avoid the uncanny valley effect of sounding nearly real but not quite. I have Kontakt 6 full but if you think you'll reach a wider audience with 5/player then do that. :)

Personally, as a Komplete 12 owner, I would prefer the version that exploits some of the new features in Kontakt 6. However, I'm guessing that from a developer's standpoint it is always beneficial to keep the backward compatibility to at least some degree. Also, the option of making "Emotica" Kontakt Player ready might be an interesting strategy that, depending on the final price could possibly draw in some new customers out there.

Thanks! Well, that's just my point with it. I don't want to simulate any string library already out there. It's to create something a little different but still something of the organic natural string sound remains. I've actually also programmed various synthesized strings with expressive Vibrato to mix them in and I think it gives the whole thing an interesting character when mixed even if it does just not sound real, but why should it? :)

Well, regarding the price point I've not made an official decision yet since it all depends on how much I have to stretch the budget, but...for now I think it will at least be at $69 up to $100 full price from the current point of view. So maybe I'd first offer it for Kontakt Full and after a few weeks/months if I have the feeling Kontakt Player would be worth it I might do that and existing owners only need to pay the license fee in case they want to have it on Player :)
But that's still far away :)
