8Dio The BIG Choir Flash Sale

So Insolidus comes to $166 with the added discount. That's pretty good. Thinking about it, since I have Lacrimosa already...wanna make sure it's not redundant.
They are the exact opposites! Lacrimosa is big, epic and loud, while Insolidus is silent, soft and lyrical! I wouldn't even think of it if I could afford it (what stops me is that I need to pay the extra 250 EUR to upgrade to Kontakt only to be able to use them).

From all the videos or walkthroughs I have ever watched and the all sound demos I have ever heard, the combination of Insolidus + Lacrimosa is my dream combination, it can take you from the softer up to the louder part, together they can get you covered for any style you need.

If you want just take your time to explore "Insolidus vs Silka", because they are very similar (both soft). Still I would choose Insolidus (and one day I hope I can do it)!

As I said I would do, I picked it up last night for the sale price (with the discount) for around $167. My initial impressions are that it does not disappoint. Is it worth its list price of almost $600? No, only because it's a niche coir library that does two things: soft, smooth legato and very realistic and beautiful arc. Of course, it does those two things VERY well. I've purchased many 8Dio libraries, and I can say that this is the first one that sounds as good as the demos, right out of the box. That's not a criticism of 8Dio, because you generally need to spend time with any library to make it sound great, but this one requires no effort. Just add some reverb, and you're good to go.

Is it worth $167? Definitely yes. That's a very good price for a library like this. It's the kind of library that you will just open and play, for your own self relaxation. If you can use it in your projects, that's a bonus!

I was also looking at Silka, but that library seems even more specialized. Others can chime in.

Well it's $166 right now with the bundle discount price. Apparently you get the extra 20% off as well.. I tried it in the cart. Just still on the fence. I really do like Lacrimosa...but I hate being stuck with using a pre determined phrase for the builder. And Lacrimosa's sequencer only has 4 vowels to choose from...hardly anything worth making a phrase from. However, their marcato and sustain syllable are great and I've used it to much success.

Hey Jerry...is it only legato? Is there no other articulation? Is the actual legato smooth and playable with many syllables to choose from?

I know, I agree about the syllables (I experience the same with Requiem Light Symphonic Choir). The choices are limited, you can't create many Latin words or phrases. But I still consider them the best choice, because they sound so organic.

I have tried EW's word-builder, you can literally create any sentence you want, you can put some effort and programming to make it sound beautiful, but still it is scripted and in the end does not sound so organic as the "real recorded" syllables.

And about if the limitation of syllables is a REAL problem, please check the following:

I consider it one of the funniest moments in official library walkthroughs! Focus on the lyrics! And then you will feel that this is EXACTLY what they sing! :)

I remember watching that when it came out...I guess...lol. I might end up getting it by tomorrow.

No, it has much more than just legato. The soft arcs and mutlisyllable phrases are what distinguishes this library from many others.

Go to the bottom of this page to see the full list of articulations:

Cool thanks. So with the multi vowels, do I have to let the phrase play out, or does it stop upon release? Lacrimosa plays all the way through and drives m nuts.

A lot of questions wondering if Insolidus is simioiar to Lacrinosa. Not sure why...

The 2 libs are nothing alike.....no similarities whatsoever....we're talking east/west, north/south, cold/hot, black/white type different.

Lacrimosa is epic and has 200 singers. Insolidus has 64 and is initimate.
Insolidus specializes in 'arcs', Lacrimosa does not.

Apples to oranges.....

I was actually asking about the articulations, not the sound. My understanding from this thread is Insolidus covers a wider ground than Silka, so I was curious if Lacrimosa had a good bread and butter list of articulations in practice.

I think the answer lies in what you actually plan to use it for: Lacrimosa doesn't have the Arcs i.e. expressive detail that Insolidus has. Just Like Insolidus doesn't have the BIG...in your face expressiveness of Lacrimosa. That's why they're different. If you're doing a trailer and you need a choir to emphasize the Epic nature of slo-moe horses running into battle with flared nostrils and angry faced riders intent on killing the enemy... then Lacrimosa is your guy. Multiple arcs may not drive the same point as efficiently.

Ultimately though you should listen to a walkthrough on 8dio. Troels is pretty good at explaining what the feature set is. That way you can hear the difference for your self.

Lacrimosa Legato and Insolidus Legato patches are completely equal. Same articulations and same samples. Only that Insolidus also includes additional Male and Female separate legato section.

I would not interchange these libs in any project. I woudnt even attempt it.

I have Lacrimosa (now Insolidus), but I asked the same questions...I have arcs in Lacrimosa, and while it's a 200 person choir, I can get fairly soft with it also...wouldn't say night and day though.

For me, Insolidus takes more CPU than Lacrimosa. Especially the 3 and 4 syllable arcs are cpu-heavy. Lacrimosa can be very soft despite its size. And as pointed out, the legatos in Insolidus appear identical to the legatos in Lacrimosa (i.e. the files are the same, at least the ones I checked).

If you need to fill the background with a resonant choir, Lacrimosa is my favorite. To add a bit of motion, I often use the multi-syllable arcs in Insolidus. The two libraries share some sonic characteriscs and can be used together without much work.

Got salary yesterday just to realize this sale was over :(
Hope there will be another in near future.

There will definetly be a sale within the next months. The choirs were just on sale in February and since they change the sales every week it will circle fast.
I skipped the February-sale but now grabbed them all - the Bundler is your friend. Instead of 600€ per choire I only had to pay ca. 100€, taking off 2000€ of all of them. I had to throw in Century Brass to hit the 50% marker. Quite eager to fool around with them now!
