DM-307 for Synthwave?

Never trust the living
Been meaning to pick this up for a while now, but for whatever reason never got around to it.

For those who have it, how do you think it does for Synthwave? Seems like it would be perfect for that genre. Does anyone have any tracks they'd like to share?

Hey, Mike.

i have DM-307 and like it quite a bit (love heavyocity!!!)

I’ve been writing a bit of sub genres from synthwave (for a cyberpunk multimedia project), and haven’t really even looked at DM. While I’m sure you can make anything work with enough tweaking, this just isn’t my go-to for synthwave .

ive been using a couple of Logic’s built-in drum patches and a couple patches from EZ Drummer that are so much closer to the synthwave vibe.

i love DM for drum & bass though!

Thanks for your feedback!

Which EZ Drummer patches are you using?

Thanks! I actually already have Dream Pop. I'll see what i can make of it.
It’s kind of a fun exercise. With the plethora of synth instruments/software at our fingertips the percussion is not really readily there.

id be interested to see what others use as well!

Mike, do you have Avenger?
There's 2 Synthwave expansions, each with around 25 drum kits. I think those will be a much better fit than DM-307.

Btw, i do already have Omnisphere.

Do you know anything about this? Looks like a way to basically implement a drum machine/sequencer by using the multi/stack and arp features.

Also, if i could just find some basic drum arps for Omni, and then a synthwave drum expansion, i think that would do the trick. Any ideas? This OMG1 seems to be the closest thing I'm looking for.

Alright, so i think i'm where i want to be now. I picked OMG (thankfully, there was a sale), and there is a lot of great stuff in here for Synthwave. Also, the Arp in Omni is brilliant and has a ton of presets. I think this will do the trick for now. Thanks guys!

As a slight alternative option, there are a lot of sample packs for synthwave with various drum/percussion hits that you can buy for pretty decent prices. if you get XO, you can import all those one hits and samples and actually get a lot more versatility in building your own kits for synthwave.

I love DM-307. But I can't for the life of me understand why drag and drop midi wasn't included as a feature. Seems so obvious. There are workarounds of course (and they aren't difficult) but a simple drag midi to host would be so much better.

Agreed! Drives me nuts, but I guess it saves me from relying on loops too much I guess

Samples From Mars has basically all the 80s drums you'd ever need.

And they often go on sale for $39.

thumbs up to this. I got these too. A lot of of versatile options when used with the right engine. Works great with XO. never used them with kontakt, but I imported a bunch into UVI Falcon, and they're fantastic.
