Orchestral reverb

greetings to all mixing experts here:

Would you mind advising what reverb configuration do you use to mix orchestral mockups using wet sample libraries please? In case anyone would like to share their Cubase reverb template, that would be very generous (I’D be happy to pay for it)... I’m aware of the approach to use room / plate / hall but my mixes usually sound bright or harsh. How do people get that lush reverb sound and which plugins are suitable? I currently own some IR plugins like Spaces II ahe Aether and some algorithmic plugins such as PCM96 bundle, R4, B2 and TC VSS3. I have realised that what people can achieve using stock plugins is far better than what I can achieve using these specialised plugins. Clearly I’m missing something!

First thing I would make sure the mix doesn't sound excessively bright or harsh before adding the reverb...

Also read somewhere that some people use reverb to sweeten up the harshness in the higher frequencies... so should reverb vs EQ be the preferred approach and in what sequence in the signal chain please?

You generally want to EQ before the reverb, especially if the reverb doesn't have a low/hi cut. EQ after the reverb - or even only EQ the reverb effect, of it sounds good to you.
