A couple of Cubase mixer questions.

Hey all!

I was wondering about two things ...

Is there any comfortable way to scroll left and right (horizontal) in the mixer by using the mouse wheel or any programmable utility and not hovering over they extremely tiny bottom scroll bar?

Also is it just me or the track pictures have a very small fixed size now? any way to change that?

Thanks all!

Horizontal scrolling is one of the items in Steinbergs August poll. If you want to vote for it.

Never use track pictures. Takes up too much space and since I colour code each track, redundant. But that is just me. :)

If you're using Windows, you can try:

CTRL+Mouse wheel or SHIFT+mouse wheel

I can't remember which combination scrolls horizontally. I *THINK" this works in the Cubase mixer. I know it works in the piano roll editor and project window.

Mouse Wheel:
• Up=Horizontal Right scroll;
• Down=Horizontal Left scroll;

Sorry but both do not work ... I can't believe such a small feature was neglected.

Some use a hardware controller on there keyboard or a separate hardware mixer and limit mouse use as much as possible it can also help take your eyes off the monitor.

It is a little bit tricky.

1. If you try in the Dock Mixer then it works if you place the mouse pointer anywhere in the bottom scroller area and tweak the mouse wheel.

2. If you open the Mix Console window then it works if you place the mouse pointer to any empty gray place to the right of the volume faders or over the scroller area at the bottom.

actually i found a nice solution, if you turn on the mixer overview section in the mixer you can actually click on it and scroll/jump to different positions ....

I'm going to point something out, since it might not be apparent coming from another DAW...but, Mixer Configurations (previously called Mixer Views)...is the key to carving up the Cubase mixer. Scrolling around a big mixer is Avid silliness. IMO.

I hit a button and all my drum faders are on my physical (and on screen)...another button, and it's all my guitars...another and it's my Aux/FX returns...the beauty of their implementation is that if that sounds stupid to you? Doesn't matter--YOU carve it up however it makes sense to YOU...maybe that's all your violin VI audio channels...and all you Cello VIs...whatever--you carve it up how YOU see fit.

While it's night and day when you use an MCU (specifically)...because there's a row of buttons that what they DO is recall the first 8 Config/Views...it's still a mouse click away from changing the config--and I imagine you can create keyboard shortcuts...or assign a button controller of some kind...

True....but, a flaw in something no other app even HAS...you know... ;)

I would love to see a tie in where you can use the Logical Editor....that way it could work on names--say anything with "vi_" or "_vi" in it goes to the violin view (to continue with my example).

Having the visibility on the left pane has made the cleanup a fraction of the time it took when they were Mixer Views. I used to call that a downside, that I really don't anymore...couple check boxes, in the same screen...all clean....

You can't Lock/Unlock a real time filtering mechanism. That's why it's not likely to be "addressed" that way. You need to be able to refine the query. Using the PLE in a template with naming convention would achieve that.

I actually have my groups tied to one view configurations with all midi/instruments tracks filtered out and all my instruments/midi in another mix configuration with the group tracks filtered out .. then i created a few macros that hide all the irrelevant tracks that i do not want to see and use this instead of a mixer view configuration .. works flawlessly and even if i add a new track the filters take care of them so i won't see them when switching between my visibility configurations.

Which brings me to another quite annoying issue, is there any way to keep the inserts rack open when switching between configurations? it always closing and that extra click is driving me mad!

Yes, if you select "Link Racks to Configurations" in the upper right Rack menu, it will save the view. You will have to put open it once and "update configuration" I think (though you could save that all in a template)...but, then, it goes to that view directly--Inserts open.

I had to learn that because Cubase 10 turns OFF the "pre" section by default...which is now the only place to invert the polarity (in the mixer)…which I do a good deal in mixing audio projects. Editing--where that was going to go was a digression from topic. :)

I’ve took the time writing a feature request although Cubase is not my main DAW.
