Orange Tree Samples 2019 Group Buy - NOW 60% OFF!!

@gregjazz (and/or other forum members), which Orange Tree library would you recommend for someone trying to emulate an '80s new wave/modern rock guitar sound—like The Edge, Andy Summers, INXS, XTC, Split Enz, etc.?
I'd say either Evolution Rock Standard or Evolution Infinity. The former would be a more flexible option, in my opinion. Evolution Infinity works great for leads and crunchy/distorted tones, but the clean tone is a little plastic-y sounding with very emphasized mids--which works for some types of '80s-era music, but you might get more mileage out of Evolution Rock Standard if you need something that has a more organic sound and tonally flexible.

How would you describe the difference between Rock Standard and Strawberry? Those both appear to be sampled LPs, right? From what I can tell from the site, Rock Standard is newer and significantly larger. Would you recommend that one, over the Strawberry? Looking to pick up 1 versatile electric guitar from the sale (along with steel strings and slide acoustic). Any other choices to consider? Thanks!

Strawberry is sampled from a Hagstrom Select Swede, according to Greg. It seems very similar to a LP to me. I would personally go with Rock Standard, for the reasons you mentioned, though I don't have either one.

Oh man! Growing up one of the two local music stores was a Hagstrom dealer. It just so happened that our trombone/keyboard player we the son of the owner of said store. I played their "floor model" every visit. And I very nearly bought it, and I kind of wish I had, it was a wonderful instrument.

Literally weeks before I was to purchase the Hagstrom I was at a fair and chatting with the guitar played in the band that played that day. He was moving to Texas, and giving up electric guitar for a bit - would I be interested in purchasing his 68 Goldtop with P-90s? Yeah, I was interested. Didn't even have my driver's license yet, which worked out well, when the Mom arrived to pick up me and my friends I asked her if she could write a check<G>! She did. I think it was the name Les Paul, because my folks were fans. Anyway, that guitar trumped the Swede, I played it for three years before it was stolen.

OK, that's my trip into the past for the day...

Greg's libraries really are quite good - and that's coming from a guitar player<G>!

Same here!

I just wish that making realistic strumming was easier. But on every other aspect, I don't see any company getting even close to OT´s guitars.

Question for Greg or anyone familiar with the fine print: I've never used an OT library, so my inclination is to buy just one, see how it goes, and if it's a good enough fit buy more during this group buy sale, i.e., make a second order. Is that possible? Or do participants just get one swing at the bat?

I believe that as long as you enter the group buy before it ends (July 22), you can then subsequently add items at the final discounted price until the grace period for paying ends (Aug 12) after it's over.

In fact, I'm pretty sure this is what I did the first year I entered. Greg can correct me if this is wrong.

Last year i got a code when group buy 60% tier is completed. I placed two different orders with that code before the group buy end date.

Wow, that's such a pity your Les Paul was stolen, and just three years into playing it!

Hagstroms are great guitars, and I love how thin and comfortable their necks are to play. My local music store had just got a bunch in stock, and I fell in love with one. I had heard enough stories that I knew better than to let it slip by. It's a bit of an anchor, but still one of my favorites.

That's correct.

When the group buy is over, we'll send out a link to complete your group buy order, and the same link will be on the group buy page itself. This is just a shortcut to add the library/libraries from your group buy order into your cart along with the discount code.

We'll also be providing the discount code directly, as well, which can be used multiple times.
